Panther Post
April 23rd - April 28th
Hello Lopez Families,
We definitely had a week to remember. Although Wednesday was stressful, it did allow us to learn from the situation in a way only experience can teach. Hopefully everyone, from teachers to students to parents, will remember those lessons.
Now I will choose to remember some other things this week that make me glad to be a Panther. This post is a little pic heavy, but I think we could use it to get our minds on what makes Lopez so great. The first picture below is from Dr. Gottardy's Superintendent luncheon. Twice a year we get to send a representative over to have lunch with Dr. Gottardy, where he speaks to the students and gets to know their needs and concerns. He is one of the most passionate people I have ever met when it comes to caring for kids. I always make sure I send someone who will represent Lopez well and I chose Austin Patranella to carry our torch. Austin is a great kid with an even greater personality. He is the second boy to the right of Dr. Gottardy in the picture below. I have always known Austin to be respectful with a strong voice. I think he was a perfect choice to represent the great kids of our school.
In the second picture below, Mrs. Welch received her Trinity Prize for Excellence in Education. She was chosen by her peers as a standout in the profession. In addition to being a great science teacher, she consistently looks for other ways to provide for our kids, not just the ones in her classes. She even helps train teachers in new innovative ways to teach and leads committees of teachers to honor students. Thank you Mrs. Welch for going above and beyond. In the picture, you see her with Dr. Gottardy. Perhaps he owes me for all the facetime he is getting on my post this week! Just kidding, it actually goes to show how involved he is in everything.
Click on the pictures in the row below Mrs. Welch, so you can enlarge them. I want you to see something that makes me smile. The first picture on the left is our orchestra playing at the NEISD Evening With Strings. The next picture is a wider view showing all the schools that played that night. It is a collection of schools in the Reagan and Lee clusters all joining together for an outstanding display of student talent. On the lower floor is 4 middle schools and two high schools all coming together. They sounded incredible. And the last picture is just one side of the fans in the stadium. I love seeing the family involvement and support. Schools do such a good job of bringing so many people together for something so positive. It reminds me of when I used to work at Reagan and would stand on the field during the football games. It brought in the players, parents, student fans, band, dance team, cheerleaders, spirit groups and on and on. It might sound corny, but I would get goosebumps every single time the national anthem would begin and I was standing in the middle of it all.
Friday I spent my birthday out of town with the band, orchestra and choir. I got to school at 5:00 a.m. so I could follow along with the buses and we didn't get back until almost 10:00 p.m. Those kids and their directors are so dedicated. Their dedication showed as the students put on performances that stunned everyone in attendance.
Yes, we live in a great place and great community. Look at the pictures below and remember that.
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

Synergy - Working together
By synergizing, we learn to value each other’s differences and celebrate our diversities. We are all different, and we are all good at different things. We must celebrate the ways that we are different and honor the greatness in each of us, as we are all special in our own way.
