International Night

Travel the world in a couple of hours and see it from different perspectives. International Night gives you a sense of countries you’ve never visited and how it feels to be in a different place.

International Night is Thursday, January 23rd, 6:30-8:30pm.

Join us for an evening where we come together as a school to share our unique heritage with each other.

We are so excited to welcome students from Sharanya Dance School in Silver Spring, Maryland and Teelin School of Irish Dance in Columbia, Maryland to our International Night!

If you would like to represent a country, please complete the following: https://forms.gle/Z4P6MKLfG1EV3TsZA

If you have any questions, please contact Fatima Rizvi or Giles Gibson.

Family File Update

We survived our first unscheduled closing of the year with very few hiccups! We are asking parents to revisit their "Family File" by going in to your HCPSS Connect Account and double checking the choice you made under "Arrival/Departure Information", specifically the last column "Unscheduled Closings". If you choose "be picked up and transported home by _____", know that no one will be calling you to let you know there is an early dismissal. If you choose "ride his/her assigned bus" your student will ride the bus you have designated home that day. We appreciate you taking the time to review this information. If you have trouble or need assistance making changes to your child’s Family File, please call the main office and we will be happy to assist you.

MemberHub

The Maryland PTA has asked all of the local PTA organizations to implement MemberHub to consistently track membership and administrative compliance. To encourage adoption, the Maryland PTA has made MemberHub free of charge to all local PTA organizations.

If you are currently a PTA member, please expect emails from MemberHub over the next weeks and verify your membership.

Please take a moment to join our MemberHub and add your contact information at: https://bpes.memberhub.com/join/875u4m.

Golden Scissor Box Top Contest

It is 6 weeks away from the February 20, 2019 submission deadline for the Golden Scissor Box Top contest. We have done a great job so far, so please stay on the lookout for those Box Tops! Remember, the student, class, and grade, with the most Box Tops will win a prize. Digital earnings will also count toward the contest, so please send a screen shot of your earnings with your child’s name, grade and teacher to boxtops.bpes@gmail.com or print the screenshot and place it in the collection box with child’s name, grade and teacher by the deadline. If you have multiple children, please indicate how many points to apply to each child. The information found in the “My Lifetime Earnings” box is all that is needed to apply the digital earnings to each child’s total.

Curtis Blues

Cultural Arts: Curtis Blues

Thanks to the PTA’s Cultural Arts committee, Curtis Blues will be performing at our school on Friday, January 17th.

"Up-cycling: Turning Junk into Musical Instruments From Africa to America is an interactive assembly that challenges students to use recycled materials to make folk instruments. Using the STEM engineering design model as a guide, Curtis performs on a variety of instruments made of “up-cycled” materials. Students discuss responsible green practices and how to use discarded items to create musical instruments as people have done throughout history."
