PARENT LIAISON UPDATE
Women Giving Back in Sterling is in need of snack packs, socks, underwear, and diapers for their clients. Throughout the month of September, let's support this amazing organization by donating these items!
I've created an Amazon wish list to collect items for this purpose. WGB has also requested gently used or new children's and adult size tennis and athletic shoes. Items purchased from the Amazon wish list will be shipped directly to the school, but if you are out shopping and would like to pick up any of these same items to donate, that would be greatly appreciated.
There is a WGB collection bin in our school lobby and you are welcome to drop off your donations during the school day, M- F, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Please do not donate clothing or additional items at this time! We are trying to honor the list that WGB has given us.

STUDENT COUNCIL ADVISORY CLUB
Beginning next week, the Student Council Advisory Club will begin meeting to plan a calendar of events for the year. This group of students is composed of students from all three grade levels and we hope that you will join us.
The work the SCA will accomplish this year will be centered on increasing student voice and choice in the work we do in our school, planning fun events, as well as using our time to create and take action on real plans to support each other and those in our community.
If you have an interest in student government, leadership skills, community service opportunities, or just have great ideas to bring to our school community, please join Mr. Buttrick (chris.buttrick@lcps.org) in room A16 for an interest meeting on Tuesday, September 21st. There will be both a morning meeting from 8:00-8:25, and afternoon meeting from 3:30-4:00. Please attend either meeting that best fits your schedule, making sure you arrange your own transportation. Thank you for considering this great opportunity to demonstrate excellence by example.

GREETING FROM THE PTO:
These are the final days for BASAP (Before and After School Programs) registration! Check out the list of classes and register before classes fill up. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 22 at midnight. Visit our website for information on classes and registration: https://www.bemspto.org/activities/basap. No late registrations will be accepted!
Our online Spiritwear Store is now open, too! This fall we are offering t-shirts, hoodies, crew neck sweatshirts, sweatpants, baseball caps, masks, and stickers for sale. Deadline to order is September 30. Get all the details at https://www.bemspto.org/spirit-wear.
On Friday evening, October 1st, we invite you and your family to enjoy Riverhawk Family Night here at the school! This will feature a bonfire, outdoor movie, food trucks and much more. Students have voted on their choice of movie and the winner is (drum roll, please) - SPACE JAM: A New Legacy! We'll also have games, music, and the chance to win prizes from your favorite places like Chick Fil A, Chipotle, and Crumbl Cookies. We hope you will join us!
Coming soon: we are thrilled to offer Riverhawk families the opportunity to sign up for a photo session with professional photographer Staged Photography on October 17th and 24th. Back-up rain date is November 6th. Mark your calendars, plan your outfits and stay tuned for more details next week!
Looking ahead to late October, we are planning to bring back the Boo Thru! Last year's Boo Thru featured a pumpkin decorating contest, complete with prizes, for each grade level PLUS a special category for teachers. The decorated pumpkin entries were so incredibly creative! Anyone remember the Baby Yoda pumpkin? This fall's Boo Thru will be held in late October.
Thank you for all your support!
