GT-GIFTED & TALENTED
Happy New Year! 2021 was such an amazing school year in Alpha. We wrapped up December with Reader's Theater on Roman and Greek Mythology. We retold the stories of King Midas and the Midas touch, Medusa and Athena, and Echo with Narcissus and Hera. What great performances. Alpha students surely need a round of applause for their acting and prop making skills.
This month in Alpha we will be finishing up the ancient exploration unit with China. The objectives are that students will
assess the contributions of the Four Great Inventions and the Great Wall
explain the purpose and geographical locations of the historical Silk Road.
show the relationship between the Silk Road and the World Wide Web.
draw conclusions about how the Silk Road impacted our world.
assess the impact of the internet on society today.
We will then be moving forward into medieval times. 2022 will not disappoint. I can't wait.

MUSIC
As we start the new year, 2nd and 3rd grade students are reviewing previously learned rhythms and solfege syllables and applying them to new lessons. Fifth graders are being introduced to learning how to play the ukulele. Fourth graders will review known music concepts in preparation for receiving their recorders in February; when they do, they will learn how to play them! First graders are being introduced to music rhythms and solfege syllables for the first time, and kindergarteners are continuing to learn concepts such as distinguishing between high and low sounds and keeping a steady beat.

PE-PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Happy New Year! We are all set for a fun 2022 in gym class! We're going to set those New Year resolutions and stick with them! For the month of January, we will be focusing on flexibility and the importance of it. We know that flexibility improves mobility, posture, muscle coordination and helps to reduce injury. Adding stretching into our daily routines will prove to be very beneficial. We will wrap up this month with our volleyball unit. We will review passing, setting, striking and serving to name a few. It is going to be a great month!

TECHNOLOGY
Happy New Year! I'm so excited to begin this brand new year with a brand new unit.
We will learn how to program and utilize micro:bit's! These are pocket-sized computers that introduce you to how software and hardware work together. They have an LED light display, buttons, sensors, and many input/output features that when programmed, let it interact with you and your world.
I can't wait to see our Lewis Leopards become computer programmers!
