Technology
As we begin the new school year, students will be receiving their new Chromebook Spins. There are a number of super cool new features that can significantly impact your instruction included in these new devices, so I wanted to share just a few as you are beginning to plan for your year. As always, if you need any help or assistance with these programs or features, just let me know 🙂. Always happy to help.:
The Stylus. Why is the Stylus cool?
- Students can now handwrite directly onto their Chromebook, using the screen like a piece of paper. Though they could sort of do that before, now it is similar to an iPad Pro with pencil (in other words, a whole new world of great).
- Numerous apps are already preloaded on the Chromebooks which allow them to decide to save that work either as a handwritten text OR have it convert it directly to TEXT/Math Symbols...not to mention the amazing art that can be made!
GooglePlay
All Chromebooks (new and old) have an added feature this year: GooglePlay. This feature allows students access to new programs directly from the bottom bar/dock/shelf of their Chromebook (including, for those Microsoft Office folks out there, the entire Microsoft Office Suite now with live online collaboration). Here are the ones available so far with some descriptions http://bit.ly/BSDGooglePlay19:How to use GooglePlay GooglePlay is now a new icon on the bottom dock of Student Chromebooks. It looks like this: Icons below mirror exactly the Chromebook apps and layout in their GooglePlay as of 8/22/19. --Easy access for students to view grades, teachers, classroom numbers, all thi... bit.ly
Front and Rear Facing Camera
Students can now create truly awesome videos using their Chromebooks alone, as the new devices are equipped with front and rear facing cameras. GooglePlay also automatically includes easy to use video and photo editors to assist students in creating quality projects.
If you've ever wanted to lead a virtual field trip, explore an object in 3D, or take a tour of the globe, the addition of the AR/VR to the Chromebook is a true advantage. For example, all GoogleExpedition Field Trips (and there are thousands) are now available directly on student devices (and you can lead/direct them from yours).
