Class Description
Introduction to features and capabilities of Microsoft Windows including disk organization, file management, accessory applications, system customization, and maintenance. Command prompt commands for file management and batch file creation.
Course Objectives
Course will:
A. Provide hands-on training using the graphical interface of the desktop Windows operating system.
B. Focus on disk and file management in Windows.
C. Provide training and experience using the Command Prompt in Windows.
D. Encourage students to work together on in-class activities to discover both beginning and intermediate features of Windows.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to open and close windows, use menus, work with dialog boxes.
- Identify basic disk structure, file systems, and disk performance issues.
- Utilize Windows and Command Prompt commands for disk and file management.
- Implement customized system settings using Control Panel utilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to add and remove hardware and software.
- Demonstrate the ability to use Windows apps.
- Administer system maintenance tools such as Backup, Scan Disk, Disk Cleanup, and Defrag.
- Differentiate between internal and external commands.
- Understand the general layout/syntax of Command Prompt commands.
- Create batch files to manipulate files and directories.
