Fireflies Baseball Reading Program

Would you like for your student to be able to go to a Fireflies baseball game for FREE? All they have to do is read 4 "just right" books from February 7th until March 30th. If they meet their reading goal, they will receive a free ticket to a Fireflies baseball game, a hot dog, drink, chips, and surprise while at the game! This is a great opportunity to have your student make a reading goal. Students can get their reading log from their ELA teachers, in the Learning Commons, and from the Learning Commons Schoology Course.

Save the Date - Miss MGMS Gator Pageant

A note from Mrs. Rogerson

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for allowing me to teach your children in social studies this year. It is with regret that I inform you I must go out on early maternity leave in my third trimester. Dr. Coon and the administrative team already have a plan in place for a certified long-term substitute so that your students continue to have a great 8th grade experience and engage with the social studies content and standards. Please be assured that your children will have a great rest of the year with support from administration, 8th grade teachers, and counselors. Feel free to contact the 8th grade social studies team for any specific social studies questions: Michael Moore at or Janet Dorneker at Ashley Holmes, 8th grade House Leader, can be reached at

Thank you again for the opportunity to build relationships and foster a love for learning with your children this year. I genuinely am going to miss seeing them everyday and know they will persevere through this change at school. I wish them all the best in everything they do.

Korin Rogerson

LAST DAY to order yearbooks is March 2nd. Please make sure you order one by this date or you will be unable to get one for the 2017-2018 school year. Go to or stop by the front office to order your yearbook before its too late.

House Happenings

Students collaborated in groups to create maps of SC Native American tribes and created a key with symbols for collective and individual aspects of their cultures. A student also brought in real artifacts of a tomahawk head and arrowhead. This is the start of our 4th thematic unit on Patterns of Movement where students will focus on map skills and migration.
