From the desk of Mrs. Humphries
This month our students were able to participate in several events. Our K-2 grade was able to participate in our Dance With Someone You Love. This event was a huge success! It was wonderful to see our families and staff having a great time. Our 4th-6th grade students who were selected based upon their academic achievements and attendance got an opportunity to go to a Jr. NBA event at the convention center. The 27 students participated in many activities at the convention center and were able to get photo/autographs with influencers and players.
Today our sixth grade students went to visit Decatur Middle School. The DMS counselors will come over on March 8th to meet with our 6th grade students. Students will get a chance to discuss what is offered at the middle school.
Our 2nd and 3rd Graders will be taking the IREAD-3 assessment in March. This is a reading test that assesses skills learned from K-3. The IREAD-3 is an online, untimed, multiple-choice assessment consisting of three separate test segments. The first segment measures foundational reading skills, the last two segments measure students’ ability to silently read and comprehend nonfiction and literary texts. Please continue to discuss your child’s goals with them. Our 2nd grade students will begin testing on March 6th and March 7th. Our 3rd grade students will begin testing on March 12th and March 13th. .
Thank you for participating in parent-teacher conferences this month. We appreciate your continued partnership, commitment, and involvement toward your child’s success in school.
Dr. Hofer visited 3rd grade for lunch today!
Dance with Someone You Love!
Our second annual Dance with Someone You Love was on Friday, February 9th. It was a great success with several Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd students enjoying an evening of dancing, snacks, door prizes, food, and fun!
Spring Pictures
Spring Pictures will take place on Thursday, March 7th. You can order online at:
Prehistoric World of Dinosaurs in Kindergarten
Our kindergartners in Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Long’s classroom are currently researching the prehistoric world of dinosaurs. They have been studying the lifecycle of the dinosaur from egg to extinction. They are using scientific discovery to learn more about fossilization and how paleontologists have used fossils to infer that carnivores have sharp teeth and that herbivore’s teeth are shaped differently. Next in their learning they will further explore the diversity in the dinosaur world, compare/contrast dinosaurs to their living counterparts, and look into the environment dinosaurs lived in compared to today. All of this will be wrapped up in a final project of creating an “active” volcano and realistic dinosaur environment!
Junior NBA All Star Weekend
Several of our students who showed growth in their NWEA scores were allowed to attend the Junior NBA clinic on Friday, March 16th.
