Family Library Encore Night
West Elementary invites our families to Family Library Night on Thursday, February 13 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. After checking out books, students and families will choose to visit an encore room and participate in an activity designed by the art, music, PE, STEM, or LMC teacher. We hope you can join us for an evening of family, books, and encores!
Valentine Party Guidelines
We are looking forward to having our Valentine's Day class parties on Thursday, February 14th. Thank you to all the parents who will be planning, organizing and preparing for those parties. The parties will begin at 1 p.m. Volunteers will be allowed to enter the building and go to the classroom at 12:45 p.m. PLEASE NOTE: Some of our lunch times will be slightly modified on that day due to the early party start time. If you are planning to come for lunch with your child, please call ahead to verify what time he/she will be eating.
As a reminder, based on the District 47 guidelines, the only food allowed at parties is to be ordered through Sodexo. This includes student valentines; therefore, please do NOT send any candy to school with student valentine cards. (Any candy sent in with valentines will be returned home with student.) We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.
We look forward to the parties being fun and safe for all! If you have any questions in regards to this please feel free to contact the school.

COOL TOOLS FOR FEBRUARY
West Family Fun Fair - Save the Date!
Save the date for our annual Family Fun Fair on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be games, Bingo, Cake Walk/Book Walk, food and much, much more. Again this year we will be raffling off Classroom Theme Baskets (see list of items needed below) and Teacher Raffles. All games and activities will end at 2:00 p.m., and the raffle drawing will begin at 2:15 p.m. Please enter the Family Fun Fair through the back entrance of the school.
Dismissal Procedures/Idling Cars
From time to time, we receive communications from concerned citizens and neighbors about the negative impact of idling cars during after-school pick-up. In an effort to preserve air quality and reduce pollution, we request that parents/guardians turn off their engines when waiting to pick up child(ren) after school. We recognize that on very cold or hot days it will be necessary to intermittently idle vehicles; however, we request that this be the exception rather than the rule. Through a joint effort between District 47, the City of Crystal Lake, and the Crystal Lake Ad Hoc Clean Air Counts Advisory Committee, “no-idling” signs were installed years ago at District 47 schools. The City is a member of the Clean Air Counts Campaign--a regional private-public initiative of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, which was created to improve air quality in Northeastern Illinois. Thank you for your consideration.
