NEWS FROM THE NEST
Newsletter from Audubon Park School K8 2020
Dear APS Families,
A little rain didn't stop the Falcon Spirit last weekend for the Park Life Group Falcon 5K. It was great spending time with our students, families, and community. Huge thanks to Kristen Reynolds and her PTSA committee for organizing this event and to all the local businesses that supported the water stations, race bags, and vendor tables. For the 2nd year, Park Life Group including Farah Bloom, one of our APS parents, stepped up to be presenting Gold sponsor. Without the leadership and support of APS parent, Felix Hernandez with Epic Sports Marketing, this event would have never existed. I am amazed by the level of support.Thank you to all. Despite the weather, it was a chance for our families and the community to come together for a fun, healthy way to connect and raise money for our school.
We have another home basketball game Wednesday vs Lockhart (4:30 pm). I hope you'll join me in cheering on the boys' and girls' teams. Last night we debuted a brand-new game day feature that showcases our players and allows businesses to advertise. See the digital display in the photos below. Thank you to the APS Falcon Fund for funding this gift to the school that will keep giving.
TONIGHT is Step Up to Middle School at 6:00 pm, an event that bridges the move to middle school for current 5th-grade families.
As we begin the month of February, our school will be honoring Black History Month and celebrating the accomplishments of African Americans throughout history and current-day. This year's theme, "African Americans and the Vote" recognizes the struggle for voting rights among both black men and women throughout American history. 2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the Fifteenth Amendment which gave the right of black men to vote following the Civil War. It also marks the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment and the culmination of the women’s suffrage movement. Our students will be engaged in cross-curricular activities during the month to honor those who have fought for equality.
This Wednesday is Walk n Roll with a "Love Yourself. Love All" theme. When students arrive at school on Wednesday, they can stop by the Heart tables located by the front office to complete a Heart-Healthy activity and grab some goodies from the American Heart Association.
Finally, please join our school in acknowledging the service of our school crossing guards this Friday for National School Crossing Day Appreciation Day. They do so much to keep our students safe each and every day and we appreciate their service.
As always thank you for your support,
