Miss Court and Miss Amy's Preschool Class
This Week!
Somehow we survived this crazy fast first week back to school! The kids were excited to be back and surprisingly, so were us teachers!
This week we have started some new routines! We have begun adding new jobs to our circle time. We are now doing a hello song, flag salute, months of the year song, identifying the month, counting how many days into the month we are, looking at the weather and identifying the weather, checking in and counting how many friends are in school and at home, looking at our group plan, and singing songs. The kids love to see what their job is going to be each day and anticipating their turn!
We have also started learning our letters. This week we learned about the letter "L". We start the week doing an interactive SmartBoard lesson about the letter L, watching ABC Mouse letter L, and dancing to Story Bots. Miss Becky talks to us about how to position our tongue to make the sound and tells us if our voice is turned on or turned off to make it. Miss Kelly teaches us how to make the letters by using long lines, little lines, big curves and little curves. We also do a letter search each week that will include us tracing the letter of the week, finding pictures that have that letter in it and highlighting the letter in the word. These will all become part of our routines in the coming weeks!
This week we learned lots about arctic animals. We learned about and made a walrus. We talked about the sounds they make, their tusks, and where they live. We also learned and made a couple different polar bears. We made penguins and watched videos about how they swim in the freezing water. On Thursday we also made adorable eskimos and talked about how they live in cold weather and houses called igloos!
We read many books including Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear?, Spaghetti with the Yeti and learned many new winter songs.
During choice time this week we did obstacle courses, played new board games, small motor crafts, played with foam blocks in shaving cream, created shapes and letters on geo boards, used gears and rods to create snow mobiles and other cool things, drew pictures on big paper and played with play dough!
During centers we played with building blocks, drew pictures on paper attached to the bottom of the table while laying on our backs,
Miss Becky read us a story and taught us about the sounds in Polar Bear, Polar Bear. She also taught us about the way our mouth should look when making the letter L sound. Miss Kelly helped us draw faces and practice Mat Man. Miss Kara did a lesson with us all where we had to do an exercise across the carpet to find a number on a domino and then they started a domino line! Devin was the lucky one that got to send the dominos to fall down! It was so fun! We also had art with Mrs. Nice on Friday!
We also had a little bit of time to go on the playground on Wednesday. It was so nice to feel the fresh air!
It was a great week!!!
