Glacier Ridge Gazette
Principal Message
This is such an important next few days. First, I would like to acknowledge and honor the heroes and fallen from the September 11 attacks. Classrooms have learned about the history of September 11th, that we now call Patriot’s Day. The discussion varies based on age appropriateness. In addition, we will also talk about Constitution Day on September 17th, which celebrates the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Next week leads up to our annual Tiger Trot on September 16th! This is the largest PTO fundraising event. Please consider donating to the PTO as a way to support students and the school. We truly could not do a significant portion of our activities without the financial, volunteer, and planning support of the PTO. At this point only 14% of families have donated thus far (last year was 53%), but there is still time. Our goal is to raise $18,000 and currently we are at $5,900. Although we don’t necessarily like to ask for donations, having a primary easy fundraiser helps to reduce the number of other fundraisers throughout the year. You can register for your student’s donation page HERE to share with friends and family. HERE is the flier with more information.
The Tiger Trot also celebrates community building and tiger conservation. We use this time for classrooms to engage in collaborative and team building activities. In addition, a portion of the donations goes towards tiger conservation. This is a PTO planned event, one of the many things we couldn’t do without the PTO. Thank you to Casey Mussio and Andrea Denman for their planning and organization of the event.
Lastly, we celebrate the big game this weekend! No, not Ohio State versus Michigan - Bigger! It’s Jerome High School versus Coffman High School. The Kurty family will be there as well. If you plan on attending, please have a conversation with your child about what choosing kind looks like at an energized football game. These are often the times where kindness is most important. In addition, please talk to them about safety. It is anticipated to be crowded, so please prepare your children what to do when they need help. Again, I’ll be there to help, as both Principal Kurty and dad!
Below is information about the logistics of the game, parking, and other information. Please review it if you plan to attend.
I wish you a great weekend. Go Celts/Rocks!
Sincerely,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D
Principal

Tiger Trot PTO Fundraiser - Now through September 16th!
Get ready for this year’s Tiger Trot on Friday, September 16th! This is GRE PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year, in which we focus not only on tiger conservation, since our beloved mascot is Morado the Tiger, but also themes like community building, kindness and empathy. Students will participate in team building activities during the event at school. Help us reach our school-wide goal of $18,000 which helps support events, programs, and initiatives within our school.
You can set up your student’s fundraising page on Pledgestar and then share with family and friends to gather donations! http://pledgestar.com/grepto. A flier will also be coming home with your student soon.
Lastly, a HUGE thank you to our sponsors! We could not do this without your help and look forward to recognizing you for your support of Glacier Ridge.

Library Volunteers Opportunity
We are excited to be bringing back library volunteers! The Glacier Ridge Library Media Center is a busy place of learning and excitement for our students. Therefore, we will be providing opportunities to volunteer in the library this year. We will have morning and afternoon times available and tasks will include checking in books, shelving books, helping with kindergarten, making copies, etc.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email Carol Naples, Library Aide, at naples_carol@dublinschools.net. Your help is much needed and greatly appreciated.
* Please note - While not necessarily required for a library volunteer, we encourage our volunteers to go through the background check process and become a Secure Volunteer. This is done entirely online, no need to go anywhere for fingerprints, and takes only a few minutes to complete and submit.
You will be notified via an email directly from the BIB when you have been approved.
Begin the background check process.
It's easy and takes less than 5 minutes! Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Dublin City Schools.
