Newsletter Week 3 Term 2
Shelly Park School - Wednesday 18th of May 2022
Dear Parents and Whānau
What an amazing effort this weekend with getting all the Yellow Phone Books delivered, and in record time. Usually, we have volunteers scrambling around on Monday trying to finish off runs and to make sure we haven't missed any of our assigned areas. This year the team were basically done by midday on Sunday. The school delivered 22,000 books. We covered most of East Auckland and we were able to do this because our school community came to the party. A massive thank you to Morree Tinson, her team and the PTA (I know if I added names here, I would miss someone out). Morree has organised this for the past few years, and I know the lead up to the event is very stressful for her. With Morree's son being in his last year at Shelly Park we may be looking for someone else to organise this moving forward unless we can twist Morree's arm a little.
This week is Pink Shirt Day. The message behind this day is that bullying is not okay. On Friday, students are able to wear mufti. Ideally, students will wear a pink shirt which helps to share the message of 'speak up, stand together and stop bullying'. There is no monetary donation for this mufti day, it's just a reminder to us all, of the harm that bullying can cause. If your child doesn't have a pink shirt, then any item of clothing that is pink will be fine.
The school hall project is approximately a month out from completion. We are very much looking forward to using the hall again, especially as the weather is getting cooler. Once we can use the hall, we will be running our school assemblies, led by our students. We look forward to having you as part of these events again.
School donation statements came out this week. We really appreciate your support with paying this as it really does go a long way in helping us deliver the best programmes for your children. Remember you can claim back 1/3 of this at the end of the financial year.
Scholastic Book Club Issue 3 closes Thursday 19th of May.

Shelly Park has again registered to collect the Yummy Apple stickers. These stickers are converted into a winning share of the $200,000 sports prize pool from DG Sport. All you have to do is purchase ‘Yummy’ branded apples, save the stickers or cut out labels, place them on a sticker collection sheet and return them to your classroom teacher. The apples can be purchased from New World, Pak n Save and participating Four Square stores.
The Yummy Apple Sticker Promotion officially runs for Terms 2 and 3, however if you have been collecting since last year, these stickers still count too. If you need more Sticker Collection Sheets or Cut out label collection sheets they will be available at the Office or with your classroom teacher. Please return all completed Collection sheets to your classroom teacher or hold onto these sheets until the end of Term 3 for collection - we will let you know!
Thank you to those who have recently purchased an entertainment book. The PTA truly does appreciate the extra funds that the school gains from each purchase. All memberships last 12 months from the date of purchase.
Every membership sold gives 20% back to our school! Please support our school with this fundraiser, and share this link with family, friends and work colleagues. Use this link to find out more! https://nz.entdigital.net/orderbooks/954z61
A school craft market is being planned for later in the term, more details to come. Any crafty children who would like to make items to sell at the market are invited to start thinking about what they might like to make.
A reminder that all parents are automatically members of the PTA and encouraged to join us for our monthly meetings to hear from Ed & the Board of Trustees about what is happening at the school, and find out what fundraising activities are
planned for the months ahead.
