CARE Community Meeting & School Spirit Day
We will hold our next monthly CAREs community meeting on Thursday, January 30th. Students and staff are invited to wear PRES clothes or the school colors, green and white, for our school-wide community meeting. At this assembly, we will focus on the theme of generosity and our CAREs values, led by our first grade team.
On Friday, January 31st, we will celebrate our school spirit with Wacky Wardrobe Day! Students are invited to dress up in a silly, original, wacky wardrobe! Be creative!
World Read Aloud Day
From their website, http://www.litworld.org:
"LitWorld was founded in 2007 after Pam Allyn, literacy educator and author, visited Kibera, an area of extreme poverty in Nairobi, Kenya. There, she experienced the urgent desire children had to read, write and share their stories, and the barriers that stood in their way. Literacy is not a gift given just to some lucky ones, it is a foundational human right that brings joy, economic independence, gender equity and a pathway out of poverty."
On February 3rd, we will celebrate World Read Aloud Day in these ways:
- All students and staff are invited to wear a readable shirt! Please make sure the text is school appropriate.
- Community readers, including District administrators and community members, will visit PRES to read aloud a book in each classroom.
- Students will participate in other reading and writing activities during the school day.
Strong Hearts, Strong Minds
The Foundation for Bedford Central Schools has supported our students at PRES and across the District with many innovative projects, including our grades 3-5 Enrichment-For-All program. The Foundation is collaborating with BCSD on a special fundraiser to support the implementation of RULER, an evidence-based approach to integrating social and emotional learning into schools, developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Please consider joining fellow BCSD families for a fun evening event, on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 7:00-10:00 PM to support fundraising for RULER and other important academic initiatives for all Bedford Central schools. Proceeds from this event will continue to support programs at PRES as well as other District priorities. Please click on the link below to learn more about the fundraiser and order tickets:

Preparing for Valentine's Day
As we prepare for our Valentine’s Day celebrations in February, both at home and at school, please be mindful that many of our students at PRES have life-threatening food allergies. Recently, a letter was sent home reminding you of the Board policy that helps us to ensure that students with life-threatening food allergies are safe at school. For this reason, we are asking that if you are sending in Valentines for your child's classmates, please send in NON-FOOD/NON-CANDY Valentines. Homemade cards, pencils, stickers, or crafts are nice alternatives to chocolates or candy that may contain nuts or other food allergens. Here is a nice article with ideas for alternative activities to celebrate the holiday:
On February 14, 2020, we will hold our annual Valentine's Day Book Swap! Students will be invited to find a new or almost new book from home to share with a friend at school. In exchange for a donated book, each student who participates will receive a new book to enjoy! Stay tuned for more information.
