TV shows today are based on crime and violence. They are more graphic and the content is suggestive. Drugs and alcohol are much more prominent today than in the 1950's. TV shows in the 1950's, like the music, were more wholesome and centered around family, values, hard work, and doing the right thing. Here are some examples.

Miss America used to be every wholesome little girl's dream in the 1950's. Contestants used to sometimes refuse to wear swimsuits in the pageant. Now, the Miss America pageant has contestants that are career-minded, educated, and not a bit shy.
American Bandstand
American Bandstand aired from 1952 to 1989. Dick Clark was the host. It featured top 40 music and teenagers dancing. The show featured many popular music acts and became an iconic music show.
