Early Dismissal

This Wednesday, August 25, is the District's first Early Dismissal day for the 2021-2022 school year. Middle school students begin the day at the regular 8:30 a.m. start time and are dismissed at 12:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch is still available for all students on these days.

Curriculum Night

Mark your calendars! We are excited to host our virtual Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 1. The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. Further details, including the night's schedule and teacher class meeting links, will be shared through an upcoming Jaguar Messenger.

Student Arrival and Dismissal

Special thanks to all our families who worked together and demonstrated great patience and understanding as we adjusted arrival and dismissal traffic procedures last week. The adjustments we made have improved overall flow of traffic in and out of the plaza drive. Below are procedural reminders for arrival and dismissal:

  • Vehicles may only turn right into the plaza drive. This means vehicles entering the drive will only be able to approach the plaza traveling eastbound along Jackson Street.

  • Vehicles will not be allowed to make a left hand turn into the plaza drive. If you live east of Jackson, we ask that you adjust your route to school in order to approach the drive traveling eastbound along Jackson Street.

  • Pull as far forward into the designated drop-off zone when dropping off your child. “As far forward” means to the end of the drive, when possible. A Jackson staff member will be at the end of the drive as a point of reference.

  • Please have your child ready to exit the vehicle quickly when you are in the designated drop-off zone. This will reduce your time in the plaza drive, in addition to wait time for others. Prior to pulling into the drive, please check with your child that he/she is ready to quickly exit the vehicle, when needed.

  • Vehicles may only turn left when exiting the drive.

  • Vehicles cannot stop, park, nor wait for students on Jackson Street between

Michigan and the west end of the plaza drive.

  • Students are never allowed to unload/load vehicles on Jackson Street west of Michigan (this includes vehicles on Jackson Street west of the plaza drive).

Health & Immunization Reminders

All 6th grade students, as well as newly enrolled 7th/8th grade students, are required to have a current physical and updated immunizations on file in the school Health Office before October 15. Students who do not have this information on file by the October 15 deadline will be excluded from school. Sixth graders are also required to turn in a completed dental exam by May 15, 2022. Forms can be found under the Health Services section on the District 45 website.

Any student interested in participating in Jackson athletics is required to have a current IHSA sports physical, completed by the parent/guardian and physician, on file in the Health Office. In addition, an Athletic Agreement, signed by both the student and parent/guardian with emergency contacts listed, must also be completed and submitted. Forms can be found under the Athletics section on the Jackson website.

Water Bottle Reminder

We want to remind families that students should bring a personal water bottle to school. Water bottles may be filled at water fill stations. Water fountains are not available. Other drinks and snacks are not allowed outside of lunch periods.

Jackson Daily Announcements

Wondering how students stay “in the know” with information and opportunities at Jackson? Check out the Daily Announcements link on the Jackson website homepage. This link takes you to the daily announcements shared with students at the start of each school day. Please use this link to keep up-to-date with activities and events available for your child.

PowerSchool Parent Portal

PowerSchool is a proactive communication tool parents/guardians can use to stay informed about their child’s academic and work habits progress in school. Please click on this PowerSchool Parent/Guardian Quick Guide link for more information about how to navigate the PowerSchool portal. There is a mobile app version of the PowerSchool Portal for families. The interface of the mobile app is slightly different from the web version. If you experience any difficulties accessing PowerSchool, please email Mrs. Aparicio, the Jackson secretary who oversees PowerSchool. Her email address is vaparicio@d45.org.

Attendance

A friendly reminder that it is the responsibility of a parent/guardian to contact Jackson in the event his/her child will be absent from school. Please plan to report your child’s absence, prior to 9:00 a.m., by calling our attendance line at 630-516-7368. Parents/guardians will leave a voicemail reporting their child’s absence. In the voicemail, please include the following information:

  • Child’s name and grade level

  • Date of absence

  • Reason for absence

Student absenteeism should be kept to the minimum; however, the School Board recognizes that some absences are unavoidable. The following are valid causes for a student's absence and will be considered “excused,” as specified in Section 26-2a of the Illinois School Code:

  • Illness

  • Observation of a religious holiday

  • Death in the immediate family

  • Family emergency

  • Other situations approved by the school principal
