Eagle Update: December 4, 2020

Barton Hills Elementary

Hello BHE Families:

Thank you all for your flexibility as we pivoted to our week of remote off-campus learning. We look forward to welcoming students back into the building on Monday.

As we look forward to the beginning of our second semester in January, I'm asking parents to fill out a survey about your plans for your students to return to campus or continue in off campus learning. This is not an AISD survey but one that is specifically for our school to assist us in planning. Unless directed by AISD otherwise, we will continue with the same safety protocols and procedures that we have been using including the use of the daily COVID-19 Screening App for every staff and student, temperature checks, masks at all times for students and adults (except when eating or drinking), lots of handwashing, and social distancing as feasible. Please use the link below to complete the survey by Friday, December 11, 2020:

Student Learning Preference Survey

This past Wednesday evening, our PTA hosted the first of three Parent Support Learning Series focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. If you were unable to attend, you can watch the recording here. The speaker, Lawrence Alexander, was inspiring and provided great context for what it means to be an anti-racist community and the work required of all of us. We had about 30 parents/community members in the session and when we broke out into small groups, here were the three questions we discussed:

  • What conversations are the hardest for me to have with my family about race?
  • What conversations are the most necessary for me to have with my family about race?

  • What's holding me back from having these conversations?

The parent support series complements the work/discussions the staff has been having as well. I've shared below some articles and books recommended by Mr. Alexander and shared during the event. There will be two more events starting in January and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Thank you as always for your continued support of our school.
