TVUSD COMMUNITY CONNECTION
March 17, 2023

May 16, 2023
Student and team acknowledgments are certainly the theme of this week's Community Connection! As we near the finish line of the 22-23 school year, it's rewarding to see all three high schools represented in the five TVUSD Spring Sports teams with the highest team GPAs in Riverside County. We are also thrilled to recognize GOHS senior Ryder Chapin for receiving the Riverside County Scholar-Athlete Award and Aubrie Stoehr from TVHS for her National Honor Society for Dance Arts Award. In this newsletter, you will also see several TVUSD Arts, Media, and Entertainment CTE pathway students being honored for their PSA films about suicide prevention and mental health awareness and the TVHS CyberPatriot Team winning the 2023 Mayors Cyber Cup Competition. I am beyond proud of the accomplishments highlighted below, and I recognize that so many more amazing things are happening throughout our schools.
Congratulations to the following Spring Sports teams in TVUSD with the highest team GPAs in Riverside County! TVUSD is the only public school district that made the list.

GOHS & TVHS AME CTE Students Honored for PSA Films
Directing Change is a PSA film competition where Arts, Media, and Entertainment CTE pathway students have an opportunity to use their creativity and voice to create a 60-second film about suicide prevention and mental health that are used to support awareness, education, and advocacy efforts on these topics. The Directing Change Program and Film Contest receives over 1,000 film submissions every year from nearly 3,500 students representing 170 schools and organizations across 31 counties statewide.
We are proud to share that two TVUSD high schools submitted films in the Directing Change competition this year. On Thursday, May 4th, students were invited to the Fox Performing Arts Theater in Riverside for a red carpet film screening and recognition ceremony to receive their awards.
TVHS:
Riley Barnhart, Katie McChesney, and Gabriella Williams submitted the film "We're Still Human" to bring awareness to how Audism can negatively affect a teen's mental health and is a form of discrimination directed against deaf people.
