SEL Lessons - feedback from teachers
10 out of 10 teachers surveyed believe that the lessons were "relevant" or "very relevant" to their students' needs!
7th Grade teacher: "I appreciated the time our counselors were able to spend IN our classrooms this year. The SEL Lessons were extremely valuable to my students. I appreciated that these lessons created a common language of acceptable terms. Their intention of creating awareness and acceptance was well-received by my classes and has made a positive impact on our class culture. We now have a shared experience to refer to as we relate to each other in class, and share our connections and even conflicts with others outside of class. I strongly believe this was a beneficial use of our instructional minutes and has served useful many times over since."
7th Grade teacher: "Thank you for the lessons! Vital content that every student needs to hear."
Spring check-in
In March, the School Counselors offered a Spring Check-in survey to assess what services 7th and 8th graders might need for the remainder of the school year.
2nd Semester: Wellness Group
One group member shared why they found the group helpful: "Talking about things that are important to me and hearing other people's opinions. And being heard and respected by people and just talking to some nice people who are like me."
Small Groups & Clubs
Wellness Wednesday: 6th Graders came to middle school with lots of initial worries from health and safety concerns to peer relationships and school concerns which is how Wellness Wednesdays became a lunchtime staple! 19 students utilized this opportunity to try some coping strategies.
Super Scholars lunchtime workshops helped 18 of our 6th graders bridge the gap between elementary school and middle school by learning about executive functioning skills.
Grief & Loss support group: 5 students who have experienced the loss of a parent received support from their peers through shared experiences, understanding the stages of grief and loss, recognizing supports and healthy coping strategies.
Healthy Relationships groups helped 9 of our 7th graders:
- Build self-confidence
- Improve self-awareness
- Support healthy boundaries
- Deal with conflicts and peer pressure
