4th Grade Science & Social Studies
Mrs. Neely's Class: Week of 11/10/2014
Science: Matter Matters!
We are continuing our unit on Matter!
During this unit we will measure, compare, and contrast physical properties of matter, including size, mass, volume, states (solid, liquid, gas), temperature, magnetism, and the ability to sink or float. We will also predict the changes caused by heating and cooling such as ice becoming liquid water and condensation forming on the outside of a glass of ice water, as well as compare and contrast a variety of mixtures and solutions such as rocks in sand, sand in water, or sugar in water.
This week we will focus on the changes caused by heating and cooling. On Monday, students will select their tasks and begin working on their Properties of Matter menu project. The final products will be due Wed., 11/19. Please make sure to ask your child, each evening, how he/she is progressing on the selected activities.

Special Events:
Veterans Day is a day designated to pay tribute to all American veterans, living or dead, but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime. Veterans day should not be confused with Memorial Day (observed in May) which honors American service members who died in service to their country or as a result of battle-sustained injuries.
