The Paw Print
North Forsyth Middle August 2015
A Note from Mr. Hunt
Dear Friends of North Middle:
Our year is off to a terrific start! I have had the opportunity to see our Wildcats perform in a variety of settings and have been most impressed. It is enjoyable to see the transformation in our 6th graders in just four weeks. The obvious enjoyment of the middle school experience is fun to witness. The 7th and 8th graders are growing up before our very eyes (but they would not like to hear this stated in this manner) and I am constantly reminded of how wonderful it is to serve in this school. I sure hope we are living up to our mission statement and reveal a true dedication to learning.
In addition to the academic, performing arts, physical education and technological pursuits during our day, you will likely hear your child talk about the 7 Mindsets program being implemented during Pride time. This is a research based program that examined years of studies, literature, and conducted thousands of interviews to find commonalities in happiness and “success” (defined a multitude of ways) throughout history. The big question (the authors call it the burning question) is this: If everyone wants to live a happy and successful life, why do so few achieve it? I am certain all of our parent partners will agree that we want our Wildcats to live a happy and successful life. These lessons explore the thinking (or mindsets) that are consistent through time for individuals who report the highest levels of happiness. Future issues of the Paw Print will feature information on the Mindsets that we are currently discussing and anyone interested in finding out more can visit 7mindsets.com. All schools in the North cluster are taking part in this work and the theme for North High is actually the first mindset – Everything is Possible.
I’ll sign off for now and leave you to read more about our Wildcats, their accomplishments, and upcoming events.

Smoothies are new to the breakfast menu this year. You may purchase as a meal or just a smoothie as an extra purchase.
To spice things up a little bi, t we’re stocking the condiment table with several different herb blends the students may choose from.
Remember: mypaymentsplus.com is a great way to track your child’s account. You can fund your child’s account and monitor the account from this website. This is a great tool for parents.
Reminder: If your child is a member of the Free and Reduced lunch program, they are also entitled to breakfast at free or reduced prices.
Parents are welcome to have lunch in the café at a very competitive price of only $3.50.
Fun Fact: The Honey Dew Melon appeared on the scene in the U.S. in the early 1900s. It’s a French winter melon called White Antibes.
Half of the world’s supply of raisins is grown in California. Seventy-five percent of all raisins are eaten at breakfast. Raisins are a good source of iron needed for strong blood and learning.

Curriculum Night
**Please bring a copy of your child's schedule which can be accessed in Parent Portal**
NFMS is offering a Curriculum night on Monday, August 31 from 6:00 - 7:15. This event is structured (not intended for a "drop in" during the advertised times). Parents will follow an abbreviated version of their child's schedule to meet teachers and find out more about the curriculum our Wildcats will see. It is remarkably similar to our 6th grade Camp Wildcat, but we recognize that parents may have more questions after a few weeks of school or perhaps did not have the chance to attend Open House. This event is targeted specifically for parents and your students are not required to attend. Please call us if you have any questions and we look forward to seeing you on the 31st!
8th Grade Parents Savannah Meeting
The Savannah Parent Meeting has been scheduled for Monday, September 21 in the cafeteria at 6:30 pm. We will discuss the itinerary for the trip, expectations for students, and the cost. Please make every effort to attend.
Robotics
Robotics is off to a great start this year with a lot of new and exciting teams. We will be having the first competition of the year here at NFMS on Saturday, August 29th at 9:00 am. Everyone interested should feel free to attend! If anyone is still interested in joining, please contact Mr. Welsch for more information: jwelsch@forsyth.k12.ga.us

The 7 Mindsets To Live your Ultimate Life
Throughout the school year, North Forsyth Middle School will be introducing each of the 7 Mindsets to all our students. During PRIDE our teachers and students will be learning about these mindsets through reading, discussion and video presentations. We want to share this learning experience with our parents. Please visit the counseling page on NFMS web site for a more complete description of the 7 Mindsets we are studying this year. Our hope is that you will actively engage in this effort to help your child achieve success and happiness through the maximization of his/her potential. Everything is possible!
The Everything is Possible mindset, our first lesson for the year, provides an understanding that we are all capable of extraordinary lives. We learn that everything in existence was once just an idea, until someone believed it was possible and turned it into a reality. Embracing this fact allows one to envision a wonderful life, expect greatness, and effectively execute the process of making dreams come true.
Don’t be a dream snatcher! Resist the urge to give your children reality checks, no matter what their dreams are. Dreams are precious, and represent the hopes and expectations we have for our lives. So every dream and positive vision of the future that your children have should be encouraged. Their dreams will inevitably change, but what matters is that they’re dreaming and believing. Constantly push your children to dream bigger, and never be the doubter or pessimist.
Change the World...Be a Mentor
Change a Life, Change the World. Can you make a few minutes a week to spend with a child? An adult who cares enough to check on a child and spend a little time with them can be everything a student needs to be successful.
Check into the mentoring program through our counseling office.
