This past week...
This past week has been great in our classroom! We learned all about syllables, identifying the main idea in stories, and completed an informative writing on why we have laws. In math, we finished unit 1 on graphing and data and continue to have number talks all week.
In science, our plants have started to grow too! We will keep measuring their growth for the next few weeks.
The class started library, music, and art as well!

Library Books
We have library on Monday, so please make sure your child brings his/her book back to school Monday, that way they can check out a new book!

You can still order books online by going to https://orders.scholastic.com/QBJXC. Our class code is QBJXC, but this link should take you right there. These will be due by 9/28.
Collecting Carnival Basket Donations
We are still collecting carnival basket donations for our arts and crafts basket that our class will be contributing! We are looking for items such as:
Markers, pens, colored pencils, crayons, craft paint,construction paper, paint brushes, stamping kits, jewelry kit, loom bracelet kit, or stickers, gift cards to Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

For Next Week:
English language arts
We will be finishing Unit 1 on why we need a government and focusing on identifying key events in a story. The students will be writing an opinion essay in class based on our reading.
Phonics: Long a: ai, a, ea, ay
High Frequency Words: he, like, little, no, of, saw, this, to, we, with
Spelling: break, chain, day, great, mail, paint, play, rain, say, stay
Math
We are starting unit 2 on place value this week. We will continue to have number talks multiple times per week as well.
Science
We are still working on life science and will be watching our plants grow and will be measuring and graphing the plants growth. We will be able to compare the growth of plants that received sunlight to those that stayed inside and we will compare the plants that got watered to those that did not as well.
Social Studies
We will be finishing up our study on why we need a government that is integrated into our literacy time.
