Feature Highlight for Parents: Collections
Destiny Discover’s Collections feature offers a way for students to browse an assortment of books linked by a common theme. Ms. Hurley creates Collections to support classroom projects, in addition to selecting books that connect to a school event or popular author (such as Book Fair Favorites or Alan Gratz, respectively). This month, the African American Focus Collection includes a variety of stories written by authors who explore and share the African American experience. Remember this is only a glimpse of resources available in our media center. Explore Destiny Discover to find more!
Free Library Cart
The best books are shared! As our library replaces books (damaged Follettbound books are replaced for free by Follett) and acquires new books (donated, from our book fair, etc.), we will offer these books to our students and staff on a Free Library Cart. Browsers will find new, gently used, and used books organized by genre, and the books should not be returned to the media center. Instead, students and staff should keep the books in a personal or classroom library - or pass the books on to a friend. The Free Library Cart is housed to the right of the welcome desk. just inside the media center doors. Encourage your son or daughter to visit soon and help us build our #bookcommunity!
February 2 & 3 Snow Days Make-Up Dates
As outlined on the published 2021-22 School Calendar, VCS will make up the February 2 and February 3 Snow Days with an eLearning day on February 18 and in-person school on April 11. eLearning lessons will be posted no later than 4pm on Thursday, February 17.
Unlike each of the Snow Days, executing an eLearning day on February 18 offers many days prior for staff to create high-quality lessons and several days afterward for students to complete the assignments. This, along with predictable and reliable internet and power, provides the best possible scenario for making the most of the eLearning day.
