The Mustang Minute

March 1, 2019 - Issue 24

Reading Across Coakley

This week was national Read Across America week and we had great spirit all week here at CMS! We had many different activities all aimed to increase our students love of reading! Students engaged in "Drop Everything and Read" (DEAR) contests where at any time of the day we would announce DEAR and our resident Thing 1 and Thing 2 would go around trying to catch students reading. Those caught would be entered into a contest for Barnes and Nobles gift cards (thanks to the PTO for sponsoring this activity!). Each day during Mustang Block students would there would be games and activities including a video of CMS teachers and their favorite books, Kahoot facts about literature and a game of Jeopardy that had student out of their seats trying to win! We ended the week in cozy pajamas and doubled our PJ collection for Cradles to Crayons in our effort to #BeatBourne! All in all it was an amazing week - take a look below at a few pictures of the fun!

Next week is jam packed as well! We will be celebrating foreign language all week with special activities and contests which will culminate in Foreign Language Night at Norwood High School on Thursday.

On Tuesday Night we have Wellness Night at CMS. There will be healthy and delicious snacks from Wegman's, Roche Brothers and Big Y. Nutrition presentations from our own Norwood Food Services (Chartwells). Mr. Nimblett, Mr. Dupuis, and Mr. Gilbert will be trying out some new activities in the gym. Mr. Quigley and Ms. Stewart will be doing presentations on Vaping and adolescent sleep habits in the library. It all starts at 6pm at CMS!

Nurses Corner

If your child calls you from school asking to come home because they are sick, please have them go to the nurse. We want to make sure that we are aware if a student is unwell to help them. If they go to the nurse, the nurse will call you directly about your child's welfare.
Social Media Survey for Parents

A parent follow up to the survey we gave students last week about social media and teen habits.

2019-2020 Budget Info

There is been a lot of information going around about the upcoming budget for the next school year. If you would like the facts about the proposed budget for the override and information on the budget without the override, please check out the school committee budget page on the NPS website linked below.

New Library Reading Area Fundraiser

The PTO is sponsoring a school wide request for funds to create a comfortable reading area in our school library. We will be adding a space with sift chairs, cozy benches, a rug, and other items to entice reading! We have already had a seed donation from Big Y Supermarket for $3500 to get us started! The $13, 000.00 would allow us to make over an entire section of the library for students use. Below is the link to make a donation - feel free to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the like! CMS is working to make our library the place to be!
