Week 7 Term 2 Newsletter
Monday/Rāhina - 14th June
Principal Message
Kia ora koutou Witherlea whānau,
What a wonderful turnout for our Whole School Cross Country and we are so grateful for the spectacular weather not to mention the determination of our tamariki as they pushed themselves in a variety of ways.
This term we enquire into Hauroa (Wellbeing) and learn new skills and knowledge. Cross Country is one of those events that students practice towards and whether they are at the front or the back, reaching personal goals is what it is all about. Then the children cheering one another along and singing and dancing their way through the day.
A very special shoutout to those students who came first, second, third and top five for Year 5-6 as they will be training to head to Marlborough Champs.
We have had a few responses to our Health Education Survey and would love more of you to have your say. It really is about 5 minutes of your time to connect with what we are currently doing and help us to reshape what it could be in the future. Here is the LINK, it is also in School App Links and the button below.
We love connecting with you formally, informally like Cross Country days and sports days and via our Seesaw, Facebook and School App. Take a look at our updated website that has integrated all of the above so families and whānau can easily access information. I have added a picture below.
Make sure you leave the last Friday of the term open for our Annual Matariki Hikoi and Hui which will see the Hall open for the first time to our community. Kapa Haka, staff and the whole school will perform before we enjoy our milo and maybe something else this year?
Ngā manaakitanga,
Andrea Harnett - Tumuaki

Amazing Writing Award
Changing the world can take a while, but if you get everyone on your side then it may not be as hard as you think! First thing you need to do is get online! Make a website, post something on YouTube or Facebook, anything to get people inspired! Your website could be videos saying and showing just how much litter is in the ocean, beaches, side of the roads and down drains. Or you could post a comment saying and showing how much trees are cut down each day. You could even make signs or posters to put up in your town! I think my next idea might have taken it a bit too far, but if you have the money then you could make an ad for the tv. But don't forget 1000 likes on Facebook or YouTube for your videos or pictures cannot save the world. To celebrate Earth Day the seniors at my school went to the park to pick up rubbish. We filled all the rubbish bags to the brim which is not good, so there is definitely room for improvement. Now that you have spread the word you need to actually get out there and plant some trees, water some plants, or you could even gather up a little club where twice a month you go for a walk to pick up rubbish or to plant some trees!
So that's how I would save the world but you can do it however you like!
“Often its the smallest changes we make that can change the world!”
