CRUSADER NEWS THAT YOU CAN USE....

This Week's Recap....

We had a great week back after the mini vacation due to the Teacher's Conference.

We had a great turnout at the PTL meeting and we THANK YOU parents! We will work on having a sound system ready at the next meeting so that we all can hear better. Lots of great things are going on with our PTL!

Students have begun Round 1 of MAP testing. The first test is the base line and it is really not something that students can study for. The 2nd round of testing will take place in January and the final round (which is the most important) will take place in May.

Lots of activities are going on. Volleyball is still in full swing. Sign Language tryouts are taking place. Our band program has begun ( it is NOT too late to join, registration is still going on).

The first quarter will end on Thursday, October 25th. There is early release on that day. From 5PM until 8PM on that day, we will celebrate with our 3rd annual TRUNK OR TREAT. Additional information is provided on this fun and same family event.

There is no school on Friday, October 26th as it is a Teacher's Work Day. Teachers will be working on 1st quarter report cards.

On Thursday and Friday, November 1st and 2nd, we will have early release because we will be hosting PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES on both afternoons. You will be sent a hyperlink to sign up for a 15 minute conference slot. It is very important that every student be represented by one parent or guardian. Please plan now for this. 1st quarter report cards will be distributed at these meetings.

Donations of Capri Suns are needed for our Hospitality Committee

Our Hospitality Committee is collecting boxes of Capri Suns for the upcoming after school pizza sale days. Stewardship hours are awarded. Please deliver donations to Room 6 or the school office, with your child's name included so that we can be sure to credit you the hours.

LOOK FOR THESE (ABOVE) AND SEND THEM IN!

Put them in the marked container in the school office. Put them in an envelope or ziploc bag with your child's name and class. This is a very easy fundraiser for our PTL as you can find these labels on many things you already purchase for your children.

Elementary Sign Language Try-outs

Tryouts will be held for ELEMENTARY SIGN LANGUAGE on Friday from 3:30 to 4:30. This activity is open to students in 2nd through 5th grade. There is a maximum number of students who can be enrolled and students must attend practice regularly as well behave apppropriately during practice.

Please email Mrs. St. Vil at kstvil@holycross-nm.org if you wish for your child to try out for Elementary Sign Language.

Parents, please observe the following policies

  • If you need to speak with a teacher, we will always make ourselves available. However, teachers cannot get into conversations with parents during arrival and dismissal. Their attention needs to be on all of the children and it is not appropriate to have conversations in front of the children and other parents. Just let a teacher know that that you need to talk to them and I am sure that a mutually agreeable time can be worked out.
  • We had a situation this week when we needed to contact a parent due to an emergency and we had NO WORKING PHONE NUMBERS. Please make sure that we have up to date contact information on file.
  • If you have a concern about another student in your child's class, it is NEVER APPROPRIATE for you to address that child directly. You must bring the problem to the attention of the teacher or an administrator and allow us to look into the problem. And unless you are personal friends with another parent, it is never advisable for parents to try and resolve problems between students. That is what we are here for. There are two sides to every student and it is human nature for parents to only hear their child's version. We are in a better position to be impartial and to get to the true facts.

It's PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH!!

We are accepting donations for a love gift for our Pastor Bartels, as well as cards and notes. If you wish to contribute, please send your gift and/or card to the office in an envelope by this Thursday, October 11th.

IF EVERY STUDENT SENT IN $1, WE WOULD HAVE A VERY NICE LOVE GIFT FOR PASTOR.

Please help one of our own.

Dear Parents,

Below is a link to a Go Fund me Page that I have set up. One of our wonderful students slipped while kicking a ball and suffered a serious leg injury. He is currently in a hip to toe cast. He will be out of school for some time and his family will have lots of unexpected expenses as they stay home from work to care for him. I know that I can count on our Holy Cross family to come through as we have done many times before.

Update: We have raised half of our initial goal of $2000 . If you have not contributed but wish to, please click on the link. below.

Please note: All of our chapel offerings from this week's chapels will be donated to the Go Fund Me Account so this is another way to help out.

Background check authorization

FIELD TRIP SEASON IS IN FULL SWING! If you wish to chaperone a field trip or help in the classroom, cafeteria, etc. in any way, you must complete an online background check authorization. It is good for two years and you will get an email when it is time to renew it. Completing this form takes less than five minutes and the results are sent confidentially to me directly. PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES. Many of you have done this already and the system is working perfectly.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED THIS LAST YEAR, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AGAIN AS THERE IS A COST TO HOLY CROSS AND YOUR BACKGROUND CHECK IS STILL VALID.

Sickness

I would like to review our policy for illness, which is in accordance with the Department of Health.

The fact is that most children get sick. We do our part to keep the germs away by disinfecting daily and by closely adhering to the policies regarding sickness.

If a student is sent home with fever, vomiting or diarrhea, they may not come to school the next day as the law requires that a student be without any symptoms for at least 24 hours before he/she can return to school.

If a student has pink eye, impetigo, ring worm or any other communicable condition, they must come back to school with a Dr's. note.

Please help us keep our students (and our staff) well by not sending your child to school with illness. I know that it is difficult to make arrangements for a sick child but develop a back up plan now before it happens.

World's Finest Chocolate is Here!

If you wish to sell a box of World's Finest Chocolate for service hours, please visit the business office. You receive 2.5 stewardship hours for every box of chocolate you sell. And let's be honest... it really sells itself! Yum....
