Happy Sunday, Lions!
On behalf of the staff, welcome to the 2021 - 2022 school year. We have been working hard this summer to prepare for this week. It's been great having the staff back this week. There was an excitement in the building this week with all the staff there. Between spending time learning how to enhance our PBL experience, to creating a list of collective commitments, to spending time preparing our building, we have been working hard to get ready and we're looking forward to seeing you all this Wednesday.
This year's "theme" is Our Tradition Starts Now. This was chosen because this year we have the honor and privilege to graduate our first class of seniors. Now that we officially serve kindergarten through twelfth-grade students, it's time to establish our traditions. It's now our time to finish defining who we are, and what we're all about. It's my goal that every family, new or returning, has a clear understanding of what families can expect from us, and what kind of partnership we need from our families.
In preparing for the #InaguralClassOf2022, we worked late last spring to design the Riverwalk Academy school seal. Inside the seal. you'll see the three icons representing academics, athletics, and project-based learning. Developing our school seal set in motion the theme of Our Tradition Starts Now. Our seal is the first of many things to come this year.
Lions, in closing, I do have one favor to ask for this week. While we've thought through and planned for every aspect of these first few days, we are anticipating that once our plans are operational, something isn't going to go exactly as we planned (i.e. first day of dismissal). Because of this, we're asking for a little patience, understanding, and support this week. We have a few new staff who have some key roles with dismissal, so please be patient with them (and all of us). With your support, you'll help set the tone for another wonderful school year.
It's going to be another great year and we're honored that you're trusting Riverwalk Academy to be your school of choice.
In Strength and Blessings,
~Dr. Compton

This week's photo is from the 4th-grade pod. Our teachers have worked hard over these past few days to prepare for our upcoming first day of school.
Website
We migrated our website earlier today, but the security certificate hasn't transferred year. If you try to visit the website, there's a chance that you'll receive a "security warning." As soon as the security certificate transfers, that warning will no longer appear. There is no threat to the site (it hasn't been hacked) so if you bypass the warning (by clicking advanced), you'll be able to access the site and navigate it without issue.
COVID-Related
We're asking that our families assist us in managing everyone's status by using this form when your child shows symptoms, tests positive, is a close contact, or is a household close contact. The data shared with us is kept confidential. After completing this form, you'll receive an email or phone call from Nurse Donna to discuss your child's specific isolation/quarantining plan.
School Hours (K - 10th Grade Students)
Our school day begins at 8:00 am. We start receiving students from 7:30 am until 8:00 am. After 8:00 am, families need to sign in their students in the main office.
Our day ends at 2:35 pm (M - Th) for our elementary students and 3:00 pm for our middle and high school students.
Elementary students, who do not have a middle or high sibling, are dismissed from 2:35 pm until 2:55 pm. Our middle and high school students, and their elementary siblings are dismissed from 3:00 pm to 3:20 pm.
On Fridays, our day begins at 8:00 am and our elementary students (without older siblings) dismiss at 12:05 pm and our middle and high school students (and their younger siblings) dismiss at 12:30 pm.
Arrival and Dismissal
Students can be dropped off beginning at 7:30 am. We ask that any parent who arrives before 7:30 am wait (stacked) in the "blue x's" behind the blue stop sign (on the map) until a staff member waives them down at 7:30 am.
Please click the graphic for more information about our dismissal procedures.
School Lunches
Riverwalk Academy is a "bring your own lunch" school where students are encouraged to bring their own lunches. We do offer a fee-based lunch program that is not income-contingent. Our fee-based lunch program is provided by Golden Corral. For more information about this option, please click here.
