5 Things you may not know about...Mr. Rota!
1. He graduated from Randolph High School and Fitchburg State.
2. He taught Graphic Arts and Printing for 6 years at Kiley Middle School in Springfield before coming to CMHS. This is my 26th year in Carver.
3. He worked for the Plymouth Rec. Dept. in the summer as Beach and Lifeguard coordinator. He is in charge of the parking and beach staff at Morton Park, Plymouth Beach, Whitehorse Beach, Fresh Pond, and Hedges Pond. (no, he can't get you out to day parking on Long Beach without a sticker)
4. He has been coaching high school sports for 30 years. Football, Golf, Hockey and Softball, and have coached on teams that have one the State Championship 3 times. (2 for hockey, 1 softball)
5. He has been playing hockey since he was 5 years old and he still play in a mens league for hockey now! (Yes, that makes him old)

HONOR ROLL BREAKFAST
CRUSADERS IN (AND OUT OF) THE CLASSROOM
Congratulations to Malu Souza, who was recognized for receiving the Massachusettes Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction at School Committee this month.
Congratulations to our Proejct 351 Ambassador who was recognized at School Committee. For Dylan's Spring Service project he will be working with Cradles to Crayons collecting new and gently used clothing. More information to come.
Quebec Trip
18 French students travelled with Mrs. Chambers and Mrs. Calvo to the Winter Québec Carnaval. It was a great trip! Our activities included, among others, a city walk, a visit to Montmorency Falls and the Ice Hotel, dog sledding, a visit to a sugar shack with a Québecois meal, traditional music, and a presentation on the production of maple syrup. Everybody had a lot of fun too at the Village de Sports that had many snow slides.
Ice Hotel (They build this unique hotel every year! The nightly rate is between $500 and $800!)
In Chemistry this week students determined the Percent Composition of water in a Hydrate!
Mrs. Burridge's Grade 9 English classes act out the tragic final scene of Romeo and Juliet.
Mrs. Bardetti's Dystopian Literature class created visuals to depict the similarities and differences in several texts by Ray Bradbury.
CAP students enjoying some downtime baking cookies and playing Connect 4
AP Environmental Science students have been studying different types of air pollution. They designed their own experiments to investigate the effects of acid rain on plant tissue and seed germination. They were surprised by the big differences they found in solutions of varying pH.

STUDENT OUTREACH GROUP
Everyone had a great time at the chocolate / laser tag social!
Mrs. Townsend and Mrs. Tiago collaborated with Mr. Santos teach students from the Unified Gym class about various learning differences and diagnoses. They also participated in simulated activities to experience what living with a learning difference may be like.

The United Parish of Carver is looking for support with a Children's Story & religious education hour (9:30-10:30-Sundays) Let me know if interested and I'll share contact info.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
Student Government Grades 6-8 collect pull-tabs or “pop-tops” from beverage cans for Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Pull-tabs or “pop-tops” may be dropped off in Mr. Wechter’s room. The tabs are the only pure aluminum part of the can, and the cans may still be returned for deposit even after the tabs are removed.

ATHLETICS
Congratulations to senior Jordyn Turner for being recognized this week by the MIAA as the top female high jumper in the South Shore League and statewide. Mrs. Bowie and Coach Carey were very proud to attend this ceremony and share this great honor and accomplismnet with Jordyn!
It was a big week for our hockey team! On Saturday, Tyler Lovendale scores his 100th Varsity Hockey Point! Tyler joined a very exclusive club, as he is only the third player in Carver program history to earn this honor!
On Wednesday, the hockey team beat Dennis-Yarmouth 4-1 and qualified for the State Tournament. This is only the third time in Carver hockey history that a team has qualified for the State Tournament!
