A Note from our Principal; Mrs. Shawnie Hays
Greetings SHES Families,
I am so grateful to be the next Principal for Shawnee Heights Elementary! I have just completed my 28th year in education. I have been an elementary and middle school teacher, Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, and the last two years the Dean of Students at SHES. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at SHES getting to work with students, their families, and our amazing staff!
I have a wonderful blended family! My husband, Rob, is an Assistant Principal at Topeka High School. Our oldest, Savannah, just completed her first year as a 3rd grade teacher and will be getting married this November. Madeline, our middle daughter, is looking to continue her education with a degree in social work or special education. Matthew, our son, works as a reporter and weekend anchor for KSNT. Our youngest, Isabelle, will be a Senior at Topeka High School. We absolutely love to get together for family meals, playing games, and watching KSU and the Chiefs play.
Thank you for entrusting your children with us at SHES. Working together to ensure your child is successful is always a priority. I look forward to seeing you all again or meeting some of you for the first time, at our Sneak Peek nights in August. I hope you have a wonderful summer!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at

Message from our Dean of Students; Mr. Andrew Singleton
Hello SHES Families,
I will begin my 10th year working for USD 450 as the Dean of Students. I was a 5th grade teacher at Tecumseh North Elementary for 6 years and an Instructional Coach at Tecumseh South Elementary for the past 3 years.
I live in Topeka with my wife, Hannah Singleton, and our two sons, James, 4 years old and Logan, 2 years old. I enjoy traveling, exploring nature, and coaching Tee Ball. My boys both love spending time outside, looking for bugs, and playing games.
I love working with families, students, and our community. I look forward to working with all of the SHES community as we strive to ensure that all students learn and are supported.
Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 785-730-5183 if you have any questions or concerns.

SHES Community Directory
Over the past 6 months our SHES Site Council has worked diligently on a variety of exciting projects. One of the projects we are ready to unveil is a school directory that the SHES staff will be able to use to meet a variety of needs, which will improve your child’s experience at school. The goal of this platform is to help communicate what each of us could potentially provide at our convenience to our SHES students and classes. Whether it's helping behind the scenes, supporting staff, volunteering time, or extending your use of resources for educational opportunities; this platform will be used to help the Thunderbolt school community get connected. We look forward to connecting with you!
We are asking for your help to be a part of the school directory initiative. Please share your interests and talents by completing this survey: https://forms.gle/Rmuqy2rpRjNer2Gg7
Thank you for helping make SHES an even better place for our children to go to school!
Stay tuned for future updates regarding projects the Site Council is working on.
All the best,
The SHES Site Council
