The 22-23 CST Family

Big picture

Week of 3/6

Dear CST Family,

Many highlights from the past week...

  • 7th grade students attended the career pathways fair at JCCC on Wednesday
  • 8th grade students attended their future high school for day-long activities on Thursday
  • Theater 2 hosted a play Friday
  • Cheer tryouts
  • Boys' basketball wrapped up their season on Saturday--including a city championship at the 7th grade level
  • Fire alarm on Tuesday
  • Also, the pure definition of "highlight" is the buzzer beater win from our 8th grade team over Frontier Trail in Thursday's city tournament game...Coach Lyons celebration is fantastic :)

As building principal, there's so much to be proud of from this past week. CST students represented themselves well both on Tuesday (fire alarm) as well as off-campus at JCCC and our area high schools. Certainly a city championship is cause for celebration, but so also is the way in which our athletes competed and worked hard all season, learned to be good teammates, and managed their classroom responsibilities on top of a bigger workload. Whether basketball, theater, cheer, chess, or an art club, there is much to experience and much to learn through it all no matter the involvement here at CST.

This is the last week before spring break! Students return on Tuesday, March 21st for the start of the 4th quarter. The next weekly will come out for the week of 3/20. Happy and safe spring break to all our CST families. Enjoy the time off and time with kids. For now, let's have an awesome end to the 3rd quarter and a great week ahead!

KTOY and ESU Master Teacher

Mrs. Lockard and Mrs. Williams were nominated by their peers to represent CST for the Kansas Teacher of the Year Award (Lockard) and ESU Master Teacher of the Year (Williams). Mrs. Lockard teaches 8th grade ELA and Mrs. Williams 6th grade science. Both are big contributors to CST both in their own classroom and as leaders in the building. Mrs. Lockard is BLT (build leadership team) co-chair and helps lead our CST ROCS program. Mrs. Williams is CST's science lead teacher, BLT member, and also helps lead CST's ROCS program. Of course, for those who have or have had either of these teachers, they know how wonderful they both are. Congratulations to Mrs. Lockard and Mrs. Williams!

Please feel free to share with anyone else in the Olathe district that you think may be interested!

District Email: Olathe Public Schools Parent Survey 2023 (Reminder)

Olathe Public Schools families,

Gathering feedback from our parents is vitally important in the Olathe Public Schools. We have a variety of ways our families can provide input and the Annual Parent Survey is an important piece. Please take a moment to fill out this district survey. It is our hope to annually reach out to parents to gain feedback to help drive decision-making. Please take a moment to watch this special video message from Superintendent Dr. Brent Yeager about the importance of your feedback.

The survey will be open until Friday, March 10 at 5 p.m. Thank you for your time and feedback.

Traffic Reminders

With colder weather we have less walkers/bikers and more vehicle traffic. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for morning drop-off. Your child should have their items readily available and conversations finished prior to stopping so exiting the vehicle can be as efficient as possible. This helps the line not back up and maintains a constant flow of traffic. A few other reminders to assist with safety and efficiency...

  • Those dropping in the front of the school may pass vehicles in the activity drop-off on the left
  • If dropping off at the activity entrance, please do not pass others who are dropping off at the activity entrance to then merge back into the same activity drop-off lane--this creates a safety issue
  • Form 2 lines for afternoon pick-up--students may cross at the front cross walk with CST staff only...do not encourage your child to run across traffic or parking lot.

Reminders for Walkers and Bike Riders

Please help us reinforce with students the best sidewalks to use upon arrival for walkers/bike riders (seen with the purple arrows on the map below).

  • Students from east of Mur-Len should cross at the 159th/Mur-Len light and walk/ride toward the football field. They will avoid having to cross all vehicle traffic in the parking lot by doing this.
  • Students coming from Lindenwood should take a left upon reaching the CST property and use the sidewalk next to our open field on the west. They should not cross exiting traffic onto 159th from the CST parking lot.
  • A new bike rack was placed at the doors west of the front entrance.
  • Students should exit the building using the same routes. PLEASE talk with students about crossing 159th at the light/cross walk...for their own safety, they should not cross 159th at any other location.

Thank you for your support as we promote safety and efficiency.

(Originally in the 8/15 weekly)

Chisholm Trail is launching its new PBIS program this year. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. All Olathe middle schools will eventually have a program. CST will be just the second middle school to implement a program, but CST feeder schools, Madison Place and Sunnyside Elementary, have already implemented theirs. We are so excited launch and for our students to experience this program.
