Workshop Description & Overview

Join Us for this MRESC Legal Series event with school law expert and attorney Ms. Lisa Burleson


Target Audience: Principals, Superintendents, Dean of Students, Assistant Principals, and other educational leaders involved in student discipline.


Overview: Student discipline takes many forms and varieties. This session will focus on the basic principles governing student discipline, the various forms of documents that govern student discipline (including Student/Parent Handbooks and School District Policy), and the broad-sweeping changes to some aspects of student discipline by virtue of HB 318 passed by the Ohio legislature and signed by the Governing this August (2018).


This session will also focus some time and attention on discipline of students under both IDEA as well as Section 504, and discipline of those students not yet to be formally identified but suspected of a disability under IDEA and/or Section 504.


Registration Fee:

  • $25 per person - Shelby, Logan, Hardin, Madison and Champaign County Public Schools/Districts, Career Centers, and Boards of DD.
  • $40 per person - Districts and agencies not listed above.

What time should I arrive at the training site? Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the check-in process. The workshop is being held in the Community Room at the Sidney Board of Education, 750 South Fourth Ave., Sidney, Ohio 45365.


Food & Beverage: Bottled water and assorted breakfast bars will be available at the beginning of the session. While coffee or other food will not be served, participants are free to bring snack items for themselves or to share with the group. Please plan accordingly…..


What You Should Bring? Participants should bring note taking materials and writing utensils with them to the session.


Our Cancellation Policy - Cancellations must be received 11 days prior to the event. Cancellations receive outside of this policy will not be accepted. Attendees and/or employing districts will be billed accordingly.
