Pershing News

May 2021

Hello everyone,

The end of school is quickly approaching us. Hard to believe that we have less than one month of school left. This truly has been a fantastic year! I could not have asked to join a better school. The students, staff, and all of you have been so very welcoming. I know that it has not been a typical year and it has not been without challenges, but it still has been a blessing to be here. Thank you all so much for making me feel so welcome this year and entrusting me with your children!

While the days remaining are short, there are still lots of activities ahead of us within these final days. Enclosed in this newsletter you will find some important information as we prepare to close out the 2020-2021 school year. As always, please do not ever hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours in Education,

Holly Brady

Online Registration

Registration for returning students closes on May 1st. If you haven’t yet completed yours, please be sure to do so. After this date, everyone will be required to come to the office to register. New student enrollment will be open until August.

Summer School Registration

Is your child registered for summer school yet? If they are planning to attend, please try to return their registration as soon as possible. This will assist us as we are preparing for staffing. Summer school is June 2nd-July 1st from 8:00-3:00 each day. Your child should have brought home a registration form. If you need another one, please contact the office or your child’s teacher and we will get you another copy.

MAP Testing

Our 3rd-6th grade students will begin MAP testing next week. We are looking forward to this opportunity for our students to show what they know. As they prepare for the next few weeks, we would like to remind everyone of a few important tips so students are prepared!

  • Get plenty of sleep

  • Eat a good breakfast

  • Read all directions

  • Use scratch paper

  • Check your answers

Virtual Talent Show

We are still in the works of creating our first ever Virtual Talent Show. Several students have expressed interest, but have not yet submitted their video. Therefore, we are extending our deadline through next week. Please use the website to submit your video. Those that have submitted their video have said it is really fairly simple. You do not have to create an account to share a video. Using this website, send it to I will then confirm that it has been received.

Field Day

Our Field day is scheduled for May 20th, with a rain date of May 21st. Due to the Covid restrictions still in place, this year we are not allowing any volunteers. We have altered our set-up and activities to safely provide this fun opportunity for our students.

Thank you so very much to the parents that help ensure our buses are able to get in and out of our parking lot easily. It is greatly appreciated. As buses turn to the East it is very helpful when cars stay back a few car lengths from the exit to allow them to make that wide right turn. When they are turning to the West again, thank you to those that are stopping traffic coming from the East to allow them to go ahead and exit.

We apologize as we know that our traffic easily gets backed up on Blackwell. We do kindly ask that you leave an opening at cross streets to allow for traffic to continue to flow for patrons that live near our building.

I also want to remind you that all car riders should be picked up by 4:20. If you are unable to be here at this time, please make transportation arrangements with Apple Bus. Their phone number is 816-273-0041. It will take 2 days approximately for them to get your child added to the route.

Materials Needing Returned

All computers, host spots, and chargers are to be returned no later than May 14th. At this time, we have had some classrooms that have already started collecting these and students that have chosen to go ahead and leave their devices at school. Additionally, all library books will need to be returned at this time as well. Thank you for your cooperation!

Masks & Water Bottles & Headphones

We have lots of students that are forgetting their masks daily. Please ensure that your child leaves the house each day with his/her mask. Additionally, some friendly reminders about water bottles and headphones would be greatly appreciated.

Yearbooks have been finalized and we look forward to these coming back very soon. While we cannot have our traditional skating party & yearbook signing, we will have an in school celebration with our students to hand out yearbooks. If you didn’t get one pre-ordered, please call the office. We did order a few extras, but they are first come, first serve.
