The Wonderful World of Woodbury
September 2019
And now a word from our Principal...
Dear Woodbury Families,
The first weeks have flown by! Students and staff are getting back in the swing of things and fall is upon us. Thank you to all of our families for attending our curriculum night and learning about your child's classroom. The partnership between home and school is of great value to us and we strive to have an open line of communication. Please always let us know if you need anything. Thank you to our PPA and Brenda's Frozen Custard for sweetening up the night for us.
Please welcome new staff members, Missi Tate & Carrie Reedy. They will be serving our Woodbury Community as support staff, or paraprofessionals, to our classrooms and students. Both come with many years of work with children, both running successful daycares out of their homes. We are so happy to have them with us!
We kicked off the school year with our first event, the Woodbury Fun Run at the Sandwich Fairgrounds. A big thank you to our Woodbury PPA for making this event happen and to the many sponsors and participants who have supported our little school. We are so proud of our Woodbury Community. The weather couldn't have been better for the event and the many smiles and laughter on display made it all worth it. We appreciate the Sandwich Fair Association for allowing us use of their facilities just weeks before their biggest event of the year. Stay tuned for news on our next event. If you have ideas or are interested in taking part in the planning, please join our PPA at their next meeting on September 12th @ 6:00 p.m. in the staff lounge.
Fair week has arrive and we love how this brings the community together for such a long standing tradition. There is much excitement around this event so we hope you and your family will get to attend. Our second graders participated in the coloring contest and we received news of the winners and honorable mentions. At Woodbury School, our honorable mentions were: Scarlett Slusher, Karlee Bogdas, Jocelynn Sandlin, and Mya Jackson. Taking home first place for the coloring contest is Elin Brummel! Be sure to check out their artwork on display at the Sandwich Fair! Way to go!
This month activities and events will be starting up including our daily fruit program, Dojo, Kid's Fitness, and Art Club. We are always looking for ideas to mix up our after school offerings, so please let us know if there is something you are particularly interested in.
As a reminder, our newsletters will always be archived on our school website should you need to go back and refer to one. We hope to keep the newsletter brief for quick viewing, share current information, and celebrate good news and upcoming events. Here's to a healthy, happy September and we look forward to seeing you! Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education.
With Kindness,
Mrs. Kern
Attendance Matters
School Safety, Visitors, and Volunteers
We believe very strongly in being responsive and current in our practice and even more in keeping your children safe at school. Our district and staff continue to dialogue to make improvements and develop more tools in order to be even more responsive in the event of an emergency. Please know that we are still the same warm and fuzzy building on the inside and updates to safety are an additional way to let our families know that our care and concern for your children is a high priority.
Please enter the front door only and sign into the office. We ask that you do not enter from the playground doors or other side doors. This includes at arrival and dismissal. We also ask as we have in the past for you to not walk your child to class.
Please ring the bell at the front door. We will welcome you to our building and ask that you identify yourself and share the reason why you are there. Example: "I am Mrs. Smith and Johnny forgot his folder today."
After signing into the office we will provide you with the appropriate identification for volunteering in our building. All volunteers will be asked to read and sign our Volunteer Handbook prior to volunteering. Handbooks can be picked up in the school office and is also attached below. We will hand out a copy of the handbook at Open House. If you plan to volunteer or chaperone any future field trips, we ask that you fill out the form in the back and return it to school.
We appreciate your support in keeping our students and staff safe.

SCREEN/RESCREEN Dates
Woodbury - Screening October 16, 2019/Rescreening October 30, 2019
Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed and signed a report indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous 12 months and that evaluation is on file at the school. This notice is not a permission to test and is not required to be returned. Vision screening is not an option. If a vision examination report is not on file at your child’s school (in the mandated age/grade) they will be screened. You may contact the school nurse, Mrs. Hoyt, with any questions you might have.
Water Bottles and Heat
Treats at School
Often students bring treats to school to share on special occasions. While bringing in snacks does not pose a problem, food allergies and health concerns require that food brought in must be store bought and unopened with clearly labeled ingredients. Non-food items such as pencils, stickers, bookmarks, or other small items are also encouraged in lieu of edible treats.
Safety provisions will be set up for food or environmental allergies on an individual basis. Curricular activities involving food will be dealt with individually.
Lunch Prices
Breakfast $1.55; Reduced Breakfast .30; Lunch $2.90; Reduced Lunch .40;

These prices are from the 2018-19 school year and will be updated if there is a change.
