Happy New Year! Our students have jumped right back into routine and active learning! Their growth has been amazing and we are excited to have the next two weeks in the second quarter to continue learning together!
We would like to personally thank all of the families and students that so generously gave us holiday gifts and provided gifts to staff! Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated!

From the Health Room
Help keep Lisbon healthy! If your child experiences any illness-like symptoms, please follow the recommendations listed below. Please also remember to send in a parent note or doctor noted for any absences due to illness.
FLU AND FLU-LIKE ILLNESSES
Symptoms: Cough, fever, headache, chills, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, possibly diarrhea and vomiting
GI VIRAL ILLNESSES
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps
Howard County Public Schools & Health Department Recommendations:
- Children who are unwell should stay at home
- Avoid close contact with infected persons
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially:
- Before and after eating
- After using the bathroom
- After episodes of coughing, sneezing, vomiting, diarrhea
- When visibly soiled
- Teach proper cough hygiene to cough in sleeve or in a tissue
- Avoid putting fingers in the nose, mouth or rubbing eyes
- Do not send a child back to school until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication.
- Consult with your health care provider if fever persists and/or symptoms worsen

Hearing & Vision Screening – Thursday, January 23rd
The Howard County Health Department will be at Lisbon on Thursday, January 23rd to do hearing & vision screenings. Kindergarten & 1st grade students will be screened as well as any 2nd – 5th grade students who are new to Maryland this school year. If your child wears eyeglasses, please make sure they have them for the screening. The re-screen date is scheduled for Thursday, January 30th. Please contact the health room directly at 410-313-5506 for any questions. Thank you!

WINTER BASH
The Winter Bash is fast approaching, scheduled for Friday, January 17, 2020. This FREE event is from 6:30 to 8:00 pm and includes a live DJ, frosty snacks, a hot cocoa bar, crafts, photo ops, and treats from “The Dough Whisperer” will be available for purchase. We’re hoping to estimate our guest count; please fill out the form that went home earlier this week or confirm your attendance at https://www.lisbonpta.org/news.

SNOWTUBING
Forms went home earlier this week for our annual snowtubing trip so be sure to sign up today! We’re headed to Whitetail Ski Resort on Monday, 1/27 from 10 am to 5:30 pm. The cost for the full experience is $44 (other options available) and questions can be sent to cathydatz@yahoo.com.
INTERNATIONAL NIGHT
Please join us for Lisbon Elementary First Annual International Night!
February 7th, 6:00–8:30 p.m.
Special Performance at 7:00 p.m. by guest musician Ssuuna. Ssuuna takes his audience on a cultural journey of Uganda with traditional songs, dances, and costumes.
But we need you too! Lisbon families are invited to share their traditions or favorite country in our Cultural Heritage Hall. Bring food, artifacts, traditional clothing, musical instruments and any other item that is representative of your family’s culture or favorite country. Please just remember little hands will want to touch these objects so please do not bring anything you are concerned could be damaged. Please use our signup genius link:
