September 2019
Welcome to September! Open House is Coming Soon!
I wish you all a wonderful month! - Stephanie
Notes from Mrs. Edwards in the Office
Thank you all for filling out your forms from the first day of school! If you are interested in becoming a “Designated Volunteer” for Antrim Elementary School, you must be fingerprinted and have a criminal background check. We will have a representative from the SAU available for fingerprinting and papers available to be submitted for the criminal background check at our Open House on September 12th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Please bring a photo ID with you. If you are already a Designated Volunteer than you do not need to do this again.
On another important note, if your child is going to be absent, please call the front office at AES at 588-6371 or put it into Pickup Patrol. Please state the reason why your child absent; if they are sick, let us know if it is a fever, cold, stomach virus, etc. Thank you and have a great year.

Volunteers?
Maintaining an elementary school library can sometimes be a daunting task. We are always looking for responsible volunteers to help with organizing books, shelving books, and weeding through old books. This can be an excellent opportunity for any GBS student to earn community service hours.
Off to a Great Start in Grade 2
Second graders are filled with excitement for this year for many reasons! Cornucopia begins this week, and the children will start to reap the harvest from the gardens they sowed in the spring! We are anticipating a visit later this month from Jeannie Connolly, our Arts Integration teacher. We’ll be making colorful self-portrait banners that will decorate our classrooms for the year. Finally, second graders get to pilot a new book take home program to encourage our second graders to READ, READ, READ! More details will be coming home about that in the next couple of weeks! We are off to a great start!
Welcome back! I am excited and looking forward to another great year of Health and Physical Education at AES. So far, the students have enjoyed several cooperative games and activities and the fun is just beginning!
This year students will have Health and PE on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday and every other Friday. A key element that contributes to student success and well-being is safety. This includes wearing athletic shoes for participation in PE. Please help your student to prepare for class by having them wear athletic shoes on their assigned PE days.
Please check out the AES Physical Education web page for additional information and pictures of AES students on the move!
Hello from Mrs. Gregg - School Counselor
40 in 4th
4th graders have been learning mathematical mindsets, and how practicing grows and changes your brain. Both classes are participating in the 40 Book Challenge, where each of us will be aiming to read 40 "good fit" books in 4th grade. We will be reading lots of books independently at school and home, as well as listening to books together!

Title 1 News
We had a great start to the year in Title One. We spent some time in all of the classrooms visiting with and checking in with our students from last year as well as getting to know the new students.
AES is happy to welcome back Ms. Bastarache. She will be at AES in the mornings before heading off to another school in our district. You may see her running a center in your child’s classroom as she is planning on working with as many students as she can while she’s here.
Ms. Levesque is back again this year as a full-time Title One Teacher. After a year of training in the principles of Universal Design for Learning, she is excited to use these skills to build expert learners.
Please remember to fill out your application for free and reduced lunch as this data is one factor that goes into our funding formula.
