Thank you for your generous support for our fundraiser, we anticipate profiting over $18,000! Our Day of Awesomeness for ALL students will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24th. Please see the link in our volunteer opportunities. Anyone who would like to attend must volunteer for a shift. Thank you!
Your support in fundraisers allows our students to attend field trips, have access to more books/instructional materials, helps fund materials for Genius Hour and add additional technology tools to our classrooms!
We will start our first round of Genius Hour next Friday, October 11th. Genius Hour is a time each Friday morning from 8:45-9:35 that students and staff participate in a chosen topic of interest. Staff members facilitate the groups and we provide all necessary materials. Our groups range from physical/sports type groups, coding, Origami, art, creating, dancing, etc. 2nd-5th grade are combined in the different groups and have over 38 different topics to choose from. They stay in the same group for 8 weeks and then we start a new session. First graders choose from 8 different topics that the first-grade teachers offer and Kindergarten and PreK have Genius Hour in their classroom. It is a beloved time each week on our campus and we can't wait to share pictures and information from our first session!

No Internet? No Problem!
Did you know that our district offers Kajeet Wifi Hotspot Devices? If your student is needing internet to work on projects, access district/campus online resources, or work on iStation, they may check out a hotspot and Chromebook from the library! Students may check them out at the end of the day and return them first thing in the morning. They must know their student email and password to log onto the Chromebooks. If you would like your child to be able to check one out, please fill out the attached Parent Permission form and Student Accountability Agreement and return it to the library. Email katherine.abbott@cfisd.net if you have any questions!

Bite Size Behavior Tips from our Behavior Interventionist, Tracy Klare
Time Management for the Multi-Tasking Family
In today's society, everyone is on the go doing multiple things at one time. Not having enough hours in the day is a problem most families face these days. However, multi-tasking can create some challenges for school-age children. Many children find it hard to sit and complete a task because they are used to doing several things all at once. So, how can you help your child at home with sitting down and completing a task? Here are some quick and easy things to implement right away...
- Eat dinner together around a dinner table. Set a timer for at least 20 minutes and everyone just enjoys a meal and a conversation. No one can get up and do anything else until the time is up. No technology allowed.
- Once a week have a game night. Rotate allowing each family member to choose which game you play. Not only are you focusing on doing just one thing, you are also practicing waiting your turn, playing by the rules, how to respond to losing, and how to be a good winner.
- Watch a TV show all together. Ask questions about the characters (how do you think they feel?), about the storyline (what do you think will happen next?), and the ending (did you like how it ended, why or why not?) Not only are you practicing some comprehension strategies, you are also connecting as a family and taking some time to focus on just one thing.
Multi-tasking is here to stay. However, with just a few simple tricks we can take time to ensure our kids can sit for a period of time and connect with their family members.

Joke of the Week:
Q. What did the calculator say to the other calculator?
A. “You can count on me!”
Math Tip: Give your child a number. Ask them to tell you what 10 more would be, and what 10 less would be. For example, give the number 18. 10 more would be 28, 10 less would 8.
Reading/ Writing Tip: Use your sticky notes and your favorite book to tell the character, setting, problem, and resolution.
