Progress reports go home Monday. Please sign and return.
Grandparents week starts Monday. Please invite all grandparents to come eat lunch with their grandchildren any day this week. Reminder-all visitors must be on lunch form or in our Skyward system. If you are unsure, please send a letter stating who you are allowing to come eat with your child. All visitors must bring their IDs.
Great Cookie kick off is Tuesday. Remember the Big Kahuna from last year? This is the same company but cookies are already baked for you! Students will come home with information Monday regarding cookie sales. Look forward to fun competitions! The school receives 50% of profits. The money goes into the CAE activity fund which helps buy technology for classrooms, basketball rims for playground and much more! Please help us make this fundraiser a success! *Students must have permission slip signed in order to participate.
Homecoming is Friday! Students are encouraged to display their Hornet Pride, but mums are reserved for the football game. Please see below for themed days. Students must wear dress code bottoms each day.
Reminder that September is Attendance Month. Students who have perfect attendance for 9/7-9/30 can rock jeans on Friday 10/7. Please make sure your child is present every day.
HUGE THANK YOU TO PTO!! At the September PTO meeting, the PTO approved to buy CAE shirts for all students. Students will receive a colored shirt based on their grade level to wear on Fridays. The colors will help us easily identify our students when on field trips.

2nd grade Passengers:

We will be learning how to find missing numbers on number lines and begin our unit on money.
Reading:
We will be comparing different versions of stories and finding answers to questions using the text.
Phonics:
We will be learning the ng, ph, and ck digraphs and open syllable patterns.
Writing:
We will identifying the beginning, middle, and end of stories and then writing our own stories with a beginning, middle, and end.
Science:
We will be learning about the 3 states of matter.
Social Studies:
We will be learning characteristics of a good citizen.
3rd grade Passengers:
Reading:
We will make predictions and summarize stories.
Writing:
We will edit our writing for capitalization, organization, punctuation, and spelling.
Math:
We will be rounding numbers and practicing addition and subtraction with regrouping.
Science:
We will continue studying about properties of matter.
Social Studies:
We will learn about the significance of Patriots' Day and Constitution Day.
4th grade Passengers:
Math:
We are excited to work on our subtraction skills using whole numbers and decimals, and even begin to learn how banks work and how to calculate profit!
Science:
What's the matter? We are learning the states of matter and how they can change from one state to another.
Texas History:
Students will identify and compare American Indian groups in Texas. They will also describe ways people adapted to and modified their environment in order to survive.
Reading:
Poetry has begun,
poetry is for fun,
and in the fourth grade,
plotting must be done.
We are excited about poetry this week!
Writing:
We have started writing personal narratives and the kids are doing an amazing job. We will continue to elaborate our personal experiences as we learn how to create "juicy" stories. Punctuation and conjunctions will all be reviewed from last week's lessons as we incorporate those into our writing.
5th grade Passengers:
Math:
Students will be solving equations using order of operations. Be sure to ask them about PEMDAS!
Science:
We will be classifying properties of matters (i.e. density, magnetic, etc)
Reading:
We will be enjoying the novel Frindle, by Andrew Clements. Have you ever wondered where all the words in a dictionary came from? Who says d-o-g is that furry friend that barks? Stay tuned to learn these answers.
