This year, Hometown School was one of the first schools in District 123 to receive fully remodeled media center. Our library classes are taught by Mrs. Lazinek and we are so excited for all the new changes in there!!
As we begin the New Year almost everyone will make some type of New Year Resolution. Fifth grade got the oppurtunity to reflect on the year that has gone by and to also choose one word for their resolution. By choosing one word students will be able to use that word as their guide and inspiration for the New Year.
Each morning, OLHMS scholars start the day with pride and reflection. Students in every Advisory take turns reading the morning script which includes reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, the OLHMS and D123 mission statements, and daily announcements from administration.
Last Thursday, January 12th, Van Gogh School Photography came to OLHMS for 8th grade picture day! Excitement ran through the hallways as students arrived at school, running to their friends to see what glamorous outfit they wore. In the auxiliary gym, volunteer parents and Van Gogh School Photographers were set up and ready to capture our 8th grade students' picture.
Last week students came back to school refreshed and ready to learn after their break. The PBIS team at Hannum decided it would be a perfect time to remind students of behavior expectations. At the beginning of the year, we had a PBIS bootcamp, where teachers discussed bear behaviors for various places in the school.
Kolmar student council does so many wonderful things, but one of the best things they do each year is the giving tree. They collect hats, gloves, and scarves for children who need them! They donate the items to Worth Township. When students bring in a donation they place it on the tree by the main entrance.
Sward's all school BINGO for our winter celebration had to be postponed due to the emergency e-learning day that was necessary on Friday, December 23rd due to extreme cold temperatures. The event was rescheduled for Friday, January 13th as well as the pajama day that was originally scheduled.
Recently, the District 123 Board of Education was presented with an opportunity to hear about the tremendous work of the OLHMS Forestry and Gardening club. Their sponsor Ms. Deb Barry, community member Mr. Bob Uzudanis, and OLHMS students provided the Board of Education with information regarding a recent project at the school district's tree nursery located on the northwest corner of the OLHMS property.
