The Principal's Desk At Sycamore ES
Week beginning February 1st
Thank you parents!
Sycamore Parents,
February is here! I love this month because it screams love, compassion, thoughtfulness and caring. I know that our students understand those words, because they spent this past week showing their kindness to others. Thank you for participating in this by helping your child honor others this past week. We hope that they will continue to honor one another with kindness.
This month is also a time to celebrate Black History Month and offer a time of reflection to think of the great accomplishments of African-Americans as well as a time to think about a healthy lifestyle while celebrating National Heart Month. I am trying myself to incorporate a healthier lifestyle while supporting our students in thinking of how eating healthier while incorporating exercise will improve our lives. Join us!
This past week, we had a chance to enjoy Pastor Chuck from Sugar Hill Church who shared some great words with our dads and students. Thank you to all that were able to make it. We learned the power of being positive instead of negative through the story of Winnie the Pooh! It was a great time for sure!
Thank you to our PTA for an outstanding Bingo Night! We always love this time of year because it allows us to commune with others while having fun! Mr. Torres, our 4th grade teacher did a great job keeping us plugged in and entertained. Thank you to all who were able to make it.
We learned that the GCPS board voted against part in the redistricting process for next year where we would have welcomed over 130 studdents fromr our cluster school Sugar Hill Elementary. We were ready to receive these great students, but realize also that other matters can cause changes to occur. As we get ready for next year, we hope that you will continue to speak positively about our amazing school and students in the community as we welcome our zoned students next year. Our school is a great place to work and learn and we are proud of what we have behind our doors.
3rd-5th grade parents:
Our students will be taking the Georgia Milestones state assessment beginning on April 18th. As a staff, we will continue to keep you informed about how this assessment is designed and how your children can best succeed. Students will need to do well on this test to pass on to the next grade, so it is imperative that they work especially hard this last semester. Please reach out to us if you feel like you need additional support or explanation on its requirements.
Counselor's Corner:
Sycamore is So Kind!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Great Kindness Challenge this week. It was truly amazing to see how much kindness was spread by our students throughout the school and community. I hope that this is a kick-starter for continuing kind acts at Sycamore. Our Buddy Bench will be placed on the playground soon, which will be a way to show kindness by making sure everyone has a friend at recess. Students are also encouraged to continue recognizing random acts of kindness they receive and help the "Friendly Forest" grow. Remember... Kindness Matters!
