Math
You have likely noticed that your student has been solving their multiplication equations with some methods that look very foreign and strange! While these methods may seem difficult and foreign to us, please try to encourage your student to use the methods they are using in class. These methods tend to make more sense to students as the strategies build upon the skills that they have learned in the past. These methods help students to understand what they are doing when they are multiplying versus just remembering steps. I completely understand the frustration of just saying "Let me show you my way" or "this way is so much easier!", it is a learning curve for all as we make this shift! I promise they will learn our "old fashion" methods soon! In the mean time, here are some videos from Wake County explaining the methods:

Homework Notes! ***
2. Students math homework this week will look very similar in that it will come home each night Monday-Thursday. The content of the homework however will be a review of quarter 1 in order to help prepare them for their Quarter 1 assessment.
3. In regards to reading logs, students should be completing a minimum of 3 entries. Students entries should be a minimum of 3 thoughtful sentences reflecting their reading for that evening. Students reading throughout the week should add up to 80 minutes total. Each entry should be signed off on by a parent or guardian. Please sign off on your students reading log AFTER they have completed their entry, this helps to hold students accountable for providing thoughtful entries on their reading. My reasoning behind reading logs is to get students thinking about how they can dive deeper in to texts and create a stronger understanding for the texts that they are reading.
4. Reading Passages: Students should be using their UNWRAP strategy when completing reading passages. Students know that I should be able to "see" that they have used a reading strategy on their passages.
Thank you for all go your support!
Report Cards
I will also likely have students bring some of their materials home on Wednesday that I know they will not need on Thursday or Friday so that the sub is not trying to coordinate this. I will message on Dojo and email if this is the case.

PBIS SPOTS Tickets
Holly Springs Elementary is a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports) school, which means that we focus on introducing, modeling and reinforcing positive social behavior.
Our school-wide positive behavior system is SPOTS.
Safety First
Practice Politeness
Own your actions
Think about what is right
Success will follow
When a class shows their SPOTS in the school-wide environment they earn a Cheetah Spot. Each class sets their own goal and when that goal is reached, the students earn a special reward.
Next week, we will introduce the ticket system. When a staff member catches individual students showing their SPOTS, that student will earn a ticket. The students are responsible for writing their name on the ticket and putting it in the ticket bin located in the classroom. On Friday, a ticket will be chosen for each grade level and the lucky students will win a free happy meal! The names will be announced on the Monday morning announcements! You can help at home by using SPOTS language and reinforcing positive behavior!
