Your Guide to Starting Strong

We are so excited you have chosen to school with us!

Knowing you want a successful start to your school year, the following information will ensure you are ready to go! Be sure to check your email daily and reach out to your Community Family Advisor with any questions. We are happy to support you as you build your routine, navigate our platforms, and begin course work.

Community Family Advisors (CFAs) are your primary point of contact, focused on the engagement and daily success of each family. CFAs will foster community-building with local/online sessions. Keep an eye out for more information!

Teachers are your academic resource and point of contact for content-specific support. Our teachers are Oklahoma-certified, and experts in their grade/course.

Getting Started

Required Orientation - All students attend live online (Class Connect) sessions.

  • Specific times vary by school/grade level.
  • Find your scheduled time in your Class Connect List.
  • Log-in to the student account to access your session.
  • Session must be accessed with a computer; mobile devices will not work.

Required Beginning Assessments - Assessments provide teachers valuable information for building individualized instruction plans to meet specific student needs. It is important students read each question carefully and do their best work. Students are required to take assessments several times throughout the school year.

  • Assessment requirements vary by school/grade level.
  • You will receive detailed instructions from your teacher/principal on how to complete your required assessments.

K12 recommends the use of Google Chrome when accessing the Online School and/or any other K12 application.

Learning Coach University (LCU)

Learning Coach University (LCU) is a 5-lesson course designed to help new coaches become comfortable with our online school. This training will provide you tools and information needed to support your student(s) and begin the road to an amazing school year. You are an essential part of what makes our school successful!

K12 National Student Clubs

K12 offers a wide variety of online clubs to help your student have fun learning with other students who share similar passions and pursuits. These clubs are offered typically two times a month, and last one hour.

Special Programs & Services

Gifted and Talented

This program provides enrichment opportunities for your student including acceleration options, enriching class connect sessions, online curriculum for computer science and coding, STEAM outings and events, academic and STEM competitions, and more.

One way your student can be identified as gifted and talented is through a nationally standardized test being offered online at the beginning of the school year. Testing is open to all students. Please complete this SY19-20 Gifted & Talented Testing Survey if you would like to have your student tested to be part of the gifted and talented program.

If your student has been identified as gifted in another school, they do not need to test again. Please email Holly Wyers, Gifted & Talented Resources Coordinator, your students documentation from the former school to be added to the program.

Child Find

We provide full continuum of special education services and supports. Specialized programming is provided by certified special educators in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) to children who meet eligibility requirements under one or more of the following disability categories, as defined by the State of Oklahoma:

  • Autism
  • Developmental Delay
  • Deaf-Blindness
  • Emotional Disturbance
  • Hearing Impairment, Including Deafness
  • Intellectual Disabilities
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Orthopedic Impairments
  • Other Health Impairments
  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Speech or Language Impairment
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Visual Impairment Including Blindness

If through Child Find activities, a child is identified as possibly having a disability and in need of special education services, we may seek parent consent to evaluate the child. All such evaluations will be conducted in compliance with applicable federal and state law and regulations.

Parents must report that their child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) during the enrollment process.You may contact our Special Services department if you have additional questions.

Parent Rights and Procedural Safeguards

Parents and guardians of children eligible for or currently receiving special education services have certain rights according to state and federal laws. For more information on parent rights in special education, a copy of the Oklahoma State Department of Education Parent Rights in Special Education and Notice of Procedural Safeguards is available on the State of Oklahoma Website.

Notification of Language Assistance Services

Any parent/legal guardian who is limited in speaking, writing, or reading English may request the school to provide access to services such as interpreter and/or translated documents. To request services please email or contact Katherine Young, ELL Coordinator for ISOK and OVCA. She will coordinate prompt access for the parent/legal guardian to the appropriate services and/or translator service.

We may disclose personally identifiable information from a student's education record as instructed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Visit the U.S. Department of Education website for an inclusive list of FERPA rights.

Title 1 - Parents Right to Know

In accordance with Parents Right-to-Know requirement under the Every Student Succeeds Act - ESSA, Section1112 (e)(1)(A) this is notification to every parent/guardian of a student in a Title I school that you have the right to request information regarding your child’s teacher, including, at a minimum:

  1. whether the teacher has met the state requirements for licensure and certification for the grade levels and subject-matters in which the teacher provides instruction; and
  2. whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or their provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and
  3. the college major and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and
  4. whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

In addition, each Title I school must provide notification if your student has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not Oklahoma certified, if applicable.
