Measure HH Update: Hope, Kelly, and Magnolia Elementary Schools
Just a year ago Measure HH, our $265 million bond measure to upgrade and modernize our campuses, passed with broad support from our community. As you know, we hit the ground running with an ambitious Phase One plan that includes modernizing many schools and installing safety and sustainability elements. This month I’d like to update you on some of our most exciting Phase One projects — major renovations at three of our elementary schools, Magnolia, Kelly, and Hope.

A VISIT TO...KELLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
From Principal Emma Cobb:
Compassion Day is a school wide event in which every student and staff member in grades TK-5 experience what it feels like to have a disability. In addition, they learn how to be inclusive and a friend to their peers with disabilities. The goal of this day is to teach our children empathy and compassion for others. When they better understand people with disabilities, they are able to communicate with them and include them in activities. Our hope is that teaching this to our young children will better prepare them to embrace differences and promote acceptance of all people in the world around them.
Shout out to the following staff for putting together this event: Crystal Waterman, Michelle Malkind, Chelsea Barajas, Rachel Yakubik, NancyAnn Hensch, Cosette Aguirre, Charlotte McDermott, and Christine Belcher.
Shout out to parents and volunteers for making the event happen: Tricia Benton, Marci Tarvin, Vicki Christensen, and approximately 35 additional volunteers and 15 student leaders from Valley Middle School.
