COMPASS MENTOR APPLICATIONS
Compass Mentor Applications (formerly known as WEB Leaders) - Are you outgoing, fun and friendly? Do you want to help our new students feel welcome at DATA? Do you want to be part of what makes DATA so awesome? Then you would make a great Compass Mentor! Compass Mentors help with orientation and work as leaders and guides for our incoming 6th graders at the beginning of the school year. (This is NOT leadership, which is an elective class.)
If you are interested joining Compass Mentors you must be a 7th grader THIS YEAR, and you must turn in an application. Please visit the DATA Library web site or stop by the Library for information.
VHS CHEER TRY-OUTS
Attention 8th grade students! If you are interested in being a part of the VHS cheer team, there is a mandatory parent/guardian informational meeting at Ventura High School Wednesday, April 6 at 6 pm in the VHS cafeteria.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
Help is needed for tending the district office garden! Students, staff and parents are invited to volunteer on April 30th from 8-12 pm. Snacks will be provided. This is a great opportunity for 8th graders who still need community service hours in order to participate in all of the end-of-year activities.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR 6TH GRADERS
If you have not had your Tdap vaccine yet, you must do so as soon as possible. Students without the vaccine will not be allowed to start 7th grade in August. If you have had the vaccine already, please bring proof of the vaccine to the Health Office as soon as possible.
YEARBOOK
Yearbooks on sale now for $40. We even have a layaway programs that starts at $5. Many new items will be added this year including an online version of the yearbook and opportunity for the community to upload photos that the yearbook staff could add to the book. See Ms. Bandringa for details. See you in this year’s yearbook!

Most Likely to Succeed
Ventura-based Aspire3 is hosting a second public showing of “Most Likely to Succeed” on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. There will be a guided discussion following the film. Tickets are $5 (students free), and all proceeds pay for the venue and film rights. (flyer below)
Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE)
PIQE is a seven-week course that prepares parents with the skills and knowledge about high school requirements, how to connect with school counselors, “a-g” college course requirements, school transcripts, college financial literacy, physical and socio-emotional development of teenagers, and ways to support their children on the path to college.
Classes begin April 14. Space is limited. please contact Assistant Principal Mayra Vega if interested or you have questions. Mayra.vega@venturausd.org
Saturday School
Invitations to our April 16, Saturday School Academy went home with students today. Please return them by this Friday, April 8 to reserve a spot for your child.
Library News
Overdue Books and Fines – Notices for overdue books and fines went out in Home Room last week. If you received a notice and you fail to return you items or pay fines, you may be excluded from end-of-the-year activities. This includes attending the upcoming dance, field trips (like Magic Mountain & beach day), participating in promotion, and receiving your yearbook. If you have a large obligation, you may make payments, but don't please don't wait until the last minute!
Library Web Site – There are lots of changes to our library web site. Check out the new "Library Activities" pages to see what's up. Get there through the Library web site at datalibrary.weebly.com.
8th Grade Community Service - If you need hours, we need you. We are planning several "Garden Parties" over the next few weeks. Stop by the Library to find out more.
