The link for the virtual graduation dance will be sent out to 8th grade families on Wednesday via email and text. The virtual dance is for Kennedy students/families only and is at 8:00 pm on Friday, June 5.

8th Grade Goodbye Messages (Mensajes de despedida de octavo grado)
Many 8th graders want to say goodbye to their classmates, so we will put together a video compilation of goodbye messages. Last week 8th grade Science teachers pushed out “an assignment” in Google Classroom for this purpose. The video is due by Wednesday night of this week. We will compile and edit the videos and send out the link in the next week or two when it is complete. Videos should be 30 seconds or less and we would love to see the graduates in their gowns. Messages, language, and gestures need to be school-appropriate.

Looking forward
As we wrap up this school year and look towards 2020-2021 there is obviously some uncertainty regarding After School Sports, and school in general. A lot of what we will be able do moving forward will be based on decisions made by our state and local health officials, and local government. With that in mind, we have been looking at new ways to engage the youth of Redwood City in safe and healthy opportunities outside of traditional team sports. We plan to have a variety of these activities in place come the Fall. Also, we are putting policies and procedures in place to insure the safety of participants, not only for these new opportunities, but also for when we return to “normal” competitive leagues. As of now there is no timeline for returning to leagues, when there is we will share that info.
Esports
I’m proud to announce that we have just launched our first new opportunity, Esports (video game leagues). Esports has become a huge trend across the country, and given the times, has become a great option to keep kids engaged in competition. Attached is an info flyer, it would be much appreciated if you could pass it along to anyone that might be interested. All of the leagues will be FREE for the Summer session. Please visit our website at https://www.redwoodcity.org/esports.
Viendo hacia adelante

Pick-ups for all items (PE clothes, yearbooks, awards, etc.) for all grades will be on Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11, from 8 am to 3 pm, and Friday, June 12, from 8 am to 12 pm. We will provide more details on the logistics/ procedures as we get closer. Part of the reason for waiting until after school is out is because our yearbooks are delayed and aren’t expected to arrive until June 5 due to COVID-19. We also are anticipating that the week of June 1 is going to be really busy to start preparing for next year due to all of the current circumstances caused by COVID-19.
Summer Bridge
For those with incoming 6th graders, we are excited to announce that we will extend Summer Bridge to two weeks since many of the students need something to do. Summer Bridge will be June 15-19 and June 22-26 from 10-11:45 am each day. Students will have class from 10-10:45 and 11:00-11:45. They will also get to meet more teachers this year as well, ten instead of five. Since this is online we will make sure that everyone has a computer and internet. We will need families to come pick up all of the goodies needed for Summer Bridge the week before. Dates and times will be provided soon. We have ordered a lot of fun stuff for the students. Expect to receive a call from a Kennedy staff member in the next two weeks to confirm enrollment and answer any questions you might have.

Redwood City School District (RCSD) has streamlined and improved its school meal distribution process as it balances safety for both families and employees with continuing to provide this essential service.
Meals at Ford, Garfield, Hoover, and Roosevelt Sites
Serving days will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays only.
On Wednesday of every week, families will be able to also pick up meals for Thursday and Friday at the same time as the sites will be closed Thursdays and Fridays.
The meals that will be provided will continue to be breakfast and lunch.
The schedule will continue to be 10:30 to 11:30 am.
All families will need to continue complying with staff to maintain their physical distance.
Any child who is under 18-years old can get food. The child does not need to be a student in RCSD and does not need to be present anymore per a waiver from the USDA.
Frozen entrees will continue to be provided as drive-thru brown bags, which means families can pick them up and take them home to heat up.
As a reminder, families are asked not to park or get out of their cars as staff will be out front ready with the meals to be picked up. Families just need to pop the trunk and staff will place the meals in the trunk.
