Scout News from Dr. Burns

Welcome to the new school year! July 2021

Big picture

Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!

Dear Families at Sara Collins Elementary,

Welcome to a fun year of learning and teaching! During the year, we will use the theme” Sara Collins Scouts ~ We’re a Great Team!” Our school community continues to pull together, especially during challenging times such as the past school year, to support and enhance the learning environment and our school culture. We are excited to welcome back our parents, volunteers, visitors, grandparents, and special friends from our community to visit and assist us inside our school after a year of not allowing any visitors due to the pandemic. As we transition back to more of a new normal, we welcome our community back into our doors to work collaboratively for our students, staff, and society.

Our focus continues to be on learning and teaching through the GCS curriculum resources and pacing based on the South Carolina state standards. Also, we will continue as an International Baccalaureate (IB) school for Primary Years Program. Please refer to how we teach the South Carolina state standards which can be found at this site https://www.ed.sc.gov/instruction/standards-learning/ and https://ibo.org/about-the-ib/ to learn more about IB. Our school will continue the tradition of high student achievement and growth through strong relationships among our families, students, staff members and support from our school community.

Our school provides a safe, loving, and nurturing environment where all students continue to grow and become successful in learning- academically, socially, and emotionally. Our students’ successes are reflected in the strong partnerships that have been established between school and home. This is demonstrated through the remarkable collaboration, teamwork, and support provided by our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and School Improvement Council (SIC). By setting high expectations and continued collaboration, we will continue to meet the needs of all our children.

Sincerely,

Melissa Burns, Ed. D.

Principal
