Friday Focus
November 8, 2019
From Mrs. Barry:
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Red Ribbon Week activities. We especially loved seeing all the wonderful KINDNESS shirts. In fact, we were so impressed that we will be having more days when students are asked to wear these shirts! So...please hold on to them and look for announced days!
Mother Teresa said, "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless." This quote hits home with me. I reflect on how a quick word from someone can totally change my outlook. If I am having a rough day, and someone says I look nice or I'm appreciated or I've done well on something, I go from gloomy to uplifted. I find myself wanting to pass on that kindness and bring joy to others. A kind word costs nothing but is worth so much!
Thank YOU for all the kindness you've given not only me but our entire MWE staff and community. Please continue to encourage your children to sprinkle kindness wherever they go. It's free, but it means everything!
Welcome home to MWE!

Kids Heart Challenge is going strong!
There’s still time to take the Kids Heart Challenge! Log in to heart.org/kidsheartchallenge today and send emails to your friends and family to ask them for their support! You can earn Knox with your first online donation.
Reminder: Any student that raises $100 will get to SLIME Coach Hollmann or Coach Carpenter on slime day. The top 10 fundraisers will get to SLIME Principal Barry or Assistant Principal Vendetti.
Great News: Every $20 raised places a sticker in a public place directing them to the AED should it be needed! Did you know that your child will know CPR by the time they graduate from high school thanks to American Heart Association sponsored legislation and funds raised by Kids Heart Challenge?

Sponsor Spotlight!
BuffBurger is a valued supporter of MWE. Please show your love and appreciation to owners and MWE parents (Sara and Buff Burden) by visiting their nearby locations – in Westchase, Memorial or Montrose.
The Burden’s are proud Houstonians creating and hand-crafting burgers from the freshest all-natural ingredients in the Lone Star State. This is what they believe:
- PERFECTION IN EVERY BITE: We’ve brought a chef-driven concept to fast-casual dining, hand-crafting burgers from the finest, freshest ingredients, then flame-grilling them over wood for that authentic Texan flavor. It’s not the easiest way, but it’s the way feel-good food should taste.
- MAKE EVERYTHING IN THE BUFF: Our dedication to the craft of burger-making knows no limits. From baking our buns to mixing our mayo, we prepare everything in-house, from scratch. Why go to all that effort? Simple. It tastes better.
- LOCAL IS THE NATURAL CHOICE: We source the finest, all-natural ingredients from hand-picked local suppliers. For our beef, there’s only one choice: the country’s best from Texas’s finest, 44 Farms.
- ALWAYS A WARM WELCOME: We’re a family business in every way. Not only are we family-owned and operated, but we’re also dedicated to making you feel at home while you’re eating out. Fast, friendly service is all part of the BuffBurger experience.
School Bell Award
It's that time of year again! The MWE PTA must nominate one of its very own to the SBISD Council of PTAs for the School Bell Award. Help us decide who will represent MWE as an an outstanding SBISD Staff Member (teacher, administrator, counselor, specialist, etc.) who promotes the objectives of the PTA (in short - making sure every child's potential becomes his/her reality) and is an advocate for all children. If you know of someone who goes above and beyond for all of us at MWE, please take the time to nominate them.
Please send the name of your nominee and a description as to why you think they should win the School Bell award to Christina Gronauer at christina_gronauer@yahoo.com. Feel free to enlist the help of students for your nominations! Recent MWE recipients include Ami Rapp, Jessica Leonard and Natalie Waggenspack.
Please submit your nominations by December 13th. The winner will be announced in mid January and attend the Founder's Day Banquet in February. We look forward to reading them!
Wildflowers - HELP NEEDED!
Meadow Wood received a grant from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center! Jamie Kelly purchased the wildflower seeds, but we need help prepping the grounds before we can plant the seeds! Please help TOMORROW, Saturday, November 9th, starting at 9:00am until we finish! We have to remove some grass to expose the soil to plant the seeds. So bring your garden hoe and kids and let's knock it out. Most of the prep work is inside the playground so the kids can help or play while we work.
