A Message from our Principal...
September 17, 2021
Dear Jefferson Families;
Happy Fall! We have completed a month of school and are in full swing with creating new knowledge, developing social emotional skills, enhancing physical skills, and basically - growing strong brains. So many wonderful things are happening here at Jefferson to support learning. I am delighted that the vast majority of students are very happy to be back with teachers and friends and eager knowledge seekers. I know that these kids are on track to have a terrific year.
I hope our Jefferson parents and guardians were able to attend the Curriculum Night via Zoom last Thursday with classroom teachers. We are excited to share with you grade level plans for learning and classroom expectations. We very much want to keep you informed about what your child is learning. For learning to really stick, students need to use their new knowledge repeatedly. They need to talk about it and put it in their own words. They also need practice and time to reflect on what they learned. While teachers provide time for these strategies, home is also a perfect place for students to exercise their brain muscles. It is our hope to provide you with enough information about what your child is learning so that you can reinforce these new strategies too. That way, students can move new information from short-term memory to long-term memory!
At Jefferson, we are also working hard to reinforce respectful, responsible and safe behaviors so that we all can learn. We recognize that having had so much time away from the structure of school during the previous 15-18 months, students may have forgotten how to work together with classmates in safe and collaborative ways. This week, our social-emotional learning team visited every classroom and provided learning experiences that give students tools and strategies to keep our learning environment safe, respectful, responsible, and excellent! Please ask them about these strategies.
Most importantly, please keep in touch. We value your feedback greatly.
Most sincerely,
Dr. Judy Floeter, Principal
