Gerunds and why they are dangerous
Wanted for identity theft
Gerunds are a type of verbal that is wanted for acting like a noun. They always end in -ing and can function any way a noun can. They can be the subject, predicate nominative, object of the preposition or a direct object in a sentence.
Gerund Phrases
A gerund phrase includes the gerund and all the words after it to complete its meaning.
Ex. Emma likes acting in plays. Acting is the gerund and it is functioning as a direct object. Acting in plays would be the gerund phrase.
Example #1
Alex is running down the street.
Running would be the gerund and it is functioning as a predicate nominative in the sentence.
Example #2
Sailing is Andy's favorite activity over the weekend.
Sailing is the gerund in the sentence and is functioning as the subject.
Example #3
I talk about eating donuts all the time.
Eating is the gerund in this sentence above and it is functioning as the object of the preposition.
