Big & Exciting Changes Are Underway
Though we are closing in on nearly a year of dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. As a district we have been working on plans for next steps for some time, looking for, and finding ways to safely bring students and staff back to campus. While we aren't quite at the point that we can fling our doors open for everyone, we are going to be taking the first steps to bring groups of students back to campus in a hybrid format for those that are ready, while still affording others to stay online.
We are excited to be able to take these next steps and to work with many of our students on campus again. We know that there are many questions as to how this will work, what changes have been made, and the timelines for the transitions. The information below includes schedules for both Hybrid (In-Person) and Remote (At Home) learning. In the next few weeks you will be receiving more detailed information about school safety protocols, teacher assignments and requirements for students and families during hybrid learning.
- January 27th & 28th - Early dismissal @ 12:00. This is new to the calendar, but very important for our staff to have time to prepare for the transition to Hybrid Learning.
- January 29th - No School. Teacher Directed Day!
- February 1st - {Hybrid A/B & Remote Students} - Many students will be assigned a new teacher, but regular zoom sessions will continue until the start of Hybrid. (More information about this coming soon from your teacher!)
While these are few key dates with important information, please continue to read through and click on the links below for more details.
Kind regards,
Mr. Sims
Hedden Elementary Principal

FOOD SERVICES
Food Services will be providing lunch and breakfast for all students.
For information regarding food services with breakfast and lunch, please click HERE.
Fife School District will limit gatherings and potential mixing of classes or groups.
Elementary students will be eating breakfast and lunch in their classes.
All students will need to be seated with all food items on their desk ready to eat before the class takes off masks.
If your student is bringing their own lunch it would be helpful if they are able to open and access their food and drink without adult assistance.
Desk and hands will be cleaned following meals.
-*-*-*TRANSPORTATION & BUSES*-*-*-*-
The driver and students onboard will be required to wear a face covering as per guidelines.
Transportation will fully adhere to the OSPI guidelines. Public health experts believe that a “multi-layered” approach is preventative even when we cannot use every tool to prevent the spread of COVID19. We will do our best to place siblings in seats together; however, students will most likely be placed in each seat and sometimes with non-family members on the bus.
Hand sanitizer will be available to each student as they board the bus.
Bus windows and roof hatches will be opened to fresh air ventilation as weather permits. Coats, hats and layers of clothing are highly suggested during the cooler months.
Sanitation of bus equipment will be guided per the manufacturer's instruction and hygiene guidelines.
Bus routes will be optimized to reduce the amount of time each student is riding the bus.
As students load the bus in the mornings, they will be directed to sit to the rear of the bus to the front.
For the return to home, all students at all school levels will be assigned seating according to their bus stop to promote distancing. School staff will assist in student line up and boarding onto the buses.
Social distancing will be encouraged and promoted at bus stops.
Families are encouraged to have students walk or bike to school using safe routes or consider driving students to school if possible.
Buses will be cleaned frequently. Buses will be cleaned at the end of each route set or trip, meaning at the completion of morning routes and then again at the end of the day. Sanitation of bus equipment will be guided per the manufacturer's instruction and COVID-19 guidelines.
For information regarding transportation services, bus stops and times, please click HERE or contact them at 253.517.1060.

^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^Recess & the Playground^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^
Our playground will be visually separated into 4 sections. Only one classroom cohort/group will be allowed to use each section at a time in order to support our social distancing goals. Students will be able to take off masks while outside, only if they can maintain six feet of distance. If they are closer than six feet, then they will need to continue to wear their mask.
