SET SAIL FOR SUCCESS
"Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success—a simple idea that makes all the difference.
In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. They’re wrong.
In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have had these qualities."
~ From Mindset Online, Carol Dweck's website
For even more information on the research behind the Growth Mindset by researcher Carol Dweck, take a look at her book: Mindset: The New Psychology of Success (yes, this is an Amazon Smile link - don't forget to link your Amazon Smile account to OCE so the school receives a portion of the proceeds. The book is also available at the Eva Perry Library).
ALL HANDS ON DECK
School Volunteer WCPSS Background Check
If you missed the opportunity to sign up during Open House for Tracks 1, 2, and 3, simply drop in the school during regular operating hours and check in at the front desk. They will direct you to the computers in the Media Center where you can submit your form. It should take less than five minutes to enter your information.
YOU MUST SIGN UP EVERY YEAR! If you were an approved volunteer last year, the process is even faster. Come in BEFORE November 15th and you will only need to answer a couple of questions on the form. (After November 15th you'll need to submit a completely new form and the county will need to pay for an additional background check).

TREASURE CHEST
Go, Play, Save!
The Go, Play, Save fundraiser has begun!!
Students in Tracks 1, 2, and 3 should have received their coupon books and selling information. Track 4 will receive their books when they track back in.
Now is the time to sell book orders to your friends, neighbors, colleagues, and family. The books also make great gifts! In addition to the Greater Raleigh area, coupon books are available for Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte and the Triad -- these additional books would be great to have on hand for day trips during Track Outs!
The cost is $30 per book - most pay for themselves in only one or two uses. Checks should be made payable to OCE PTA or use this link to pay with a credit card. You can also forward that link to friends and family to help support our school.
Orders are due August 10 for Tracks 1 & 2 and August 22nd for Tracks 3 & 4.
